POSITION TITLE: PROGRAM OFFICER

DEPARTMENT: STUDY ABROAD AND OUTREACH

PRIMARY SUPERVISOR: DIRECTOR OF STUDY ABROAD AND OUTREACH

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Program Officer in Study Abroad and Outreach reports to the Director of Study Abroad and Outreach and is a key link between AMIDEAST Headquarters in Washington, DC and U.S. students, institutions sending students on AMIDEAST sponsored programs, and AMIDEAST field office staff members delivering programs in the Middle East and North Africa. In addition, the Program Officer manages AMIDEAST's Institutional Membership program and participates in the development and dissemination of educational resources about the Middle East and North Africa for pre-collegiate audiences.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Fielding inquiries from prospective students or institutions and maintaining on-going communication with them through the pre-departure phase of their education abroad experience
  • Maintaining on-going liaison and working collaboratively with field office staff regarding AMIDEAST education abroad programs from program development through implementation, monitoring and final reporting
  • Participating in the development of new program proposals and budgets and maintaining on-going communication with program sponsors/clients from the beginning of the process through final reporting
  • Promoting programs including interaction with campus-based education abroad professionals and development of print and web-based promotional materials and strategies
  • Participating in other outreach activities as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field
  • 3-5 years of relevant professional experience
  • Project management experience, including budget experience
  • Participation in and/or administration of study abroad programs
  • Broad knowledge of the Middle East and North Africa
  • Academic study, employment, or extensive and substantive travel in the Middle East/North Africa
  • Excellent research skills
  • Strong computer skills (candidate should list experience with various software programs)
  • Precise attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work under pressure
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated and a team player
  • Effective multitasking and problem-solving skills
  • Flexibility and ability to shift priorities to meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and accept responsibility
  • Accurate touch keyboarding

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in a relevant field
  • Spoken/written Arabic and/or French proficiency
  • Marketing experience
  • Teaching, curriculum development, or other educational experience
