The World Vegetable Center needs your expertise to turn research results into scalable products. The mission of this international institute is research on vegetables. Founded in 1971, it is one of 17 non-profit, globally active agricultural research centers funded by the German Federal Government and an international donor community. It also cooperates with the Global Agricultural Research Partnership (CGIAR). CGIAR has set itself the ambitious goal of using its research to make a quantifiable contribution to reducing poverty and fighting famine. One goal, for example, is for 100 million households in development cooperation countries to use innovative products developed through agricultural research by 2022. To achieve these goals, German development cooperation has established a Task Force on Scaling, to which you will belong.

Two further centres are looking for an integrated expert that will perform the same tasks for their global research programmes (CGIAR Research Programs, CRPs): International Potato Center, (CIP)/Kenya, HarvestPlus/Kenya.

Your tasks will involve:
  • Developing and implementing approaches for widespread dissemination of research findings and products (scaling cases)
  • Working towards the institute’s development with regard to scaling and innovation
  • Sharing experiences with and learning about scaling with other experts from the Task Force
  • Fundraising for scaling activities for individual agricultural research products
Your profile:
  • University degree in agricultural sciences, innovation management or another subject that meets the position’s requirements
  • Several years of professional experience with new business models, disruptive innovations and/or in start-up businesses in the field of agriculture, agribusiness or agricultural marketing as well as with upscaling of agricultural products
  • The ability to try out and convey unconventional paths, to take the initiative and communicate creative ideas persuasively
  • Business fluency in English and French
  • In addition you have the citizenship of an EU member state for reasons to meet the criteria of the Integrated Experts Program, UK passport holders are eligible to apply
