An exciting and unique role within our thriving Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning division. WYG are looking for an ambitious and highly skilled project manager to join the talented and diverse team within our central Edinburgh office.
Located just two minutes’ walk from Edinburgh Waverley station, our first-class office is at the very heart of Edinburgh. Our MEL team provide a vital service for a range of international development projects, many of which are funded through UK Government departments as part of the UK’s international aid programme.
The work we do is complex and often breaks new ground in terms of social and economic reform. It influences the welfare of citizens by addressing difficult global challenges, such as trade reform, poverty, health, corruption and climate change. We’re lucky to be able to make a difference and are proud that our creativity and innovation can help alleviate these difficulties.
Your Role
Although primarily based in Edinburgh, this role will allow you to observe first-hand the impact of your work. Working in partnership with other consulting firms, the project manager role will involve interacting with a large network of suppliers and associates across the world. This will include travel to other parts of the UK, including London and possibly overseas.
As a project manager, you will take responsibility for preparation and submission of all non-technical, contractual and project monitoring documentation. This will include monthly management reports, preparation of milestone schedules, progress against KPIs, and financial statements.
You will organise the set-up of work plans and associated milestones/deliverables on our project management software, and work to ensure that all technical products are delivered on time and on budget.
Additionally, you will operate a strong link of communication with WYG finance to review and approve project related spend, and the monthly project accounts. It will be your responsibility to ensure that project costs are controlled effectively, and forecasted gross margins are attained.
A key element of your role will be asset allocation, and you will make plans for resource management, budgeting and team structures for individual work packages. For all work you are involved with, you must be unceasingly vigilant in identifying and mitigating issues and performance risk.
More than anything, this is a team role. Day to day, you will be learning, assisting and interacting with the Project Director, team leaders and the senior management of our delivery partners. You will facilitate and engage in regular meetings, and continuously combine and collaborate with our energetic and prosperous team.
About You
Experience within the Monitoring & Evaluation sector is beneficial, but not a pre-requisite. We will consider all applicants who demonstrate an expertise in project management, and a desire to challenge themselves. Experience working with a socio-economic consultancy or project delivery within an international development setting will be highly applicable to the role. Furthermore, experience working with Governments and NGOs will be valuable.
It is highly desirable that you have experience managing large and complex programmes. Equally, we are keen that you either have, or are working towards PMP or APM qualifications. Working knowledge of appropriate project/financial management software is essential.
Due to the collaborative nature of our work, it is imperative that that you can communicate effectively on complex matters with our worldwide group of teams.
Above all, you must be a driven and dedicated individual, determined to apply your abilities to an area of work that will help make a tangible difference to the world. WYG will do all it can to ensure you flourish, and whilst hard work is required, you will be busy, challenged and ultimately feel rewarded by the work you do.
