This internship opportunity is located in the Office of the Under-Secretary-General (OUSG), in the Office of the Chief of Staff (OCOS), in the Strategic Communications Unit, within UNDSS. The role of the Strategic Communications Unit is to work on diverse communications initiatives to promote the activities of UNDSS and the work of security at large. OCOS contributes to UNDSS’ efforts to enable the implementation of the United Nations mandate while ensuring safety and security of United Nations personnel.
The duration of the internship is for a period of six (6) months, beginning May 2026. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the office to which they are assigned. This internship is designed to be in person and full-time (35 hours or more). The internship can be adapted to accommodate hybrid arrangements, on an exceptional basis.

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Masters or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelors, Masters or PH.D. Programme.

Applicants must have proficiency in Adobe Suite and communications applications is required. More importantly, we are looking for someone who brings creativity and a problem-solving mindset to digital tools, someone who doesn’t just use software, but finds new ways to make it optimise the message. Please share examples that demonstrate this.
Applicants having proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 is required. Candidates should be comfortable using the full suite of tools to produce, manage and distribute communications products, from drafting and design to storage and collaboration.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the internship advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required and any fluency in any other language is desirable.
