How can you make a difference?

Purpose of the assignment

The Public Partnerships Division (PPD) works to strengthen UNICEF’s position as a partner of choice for children’s right among governments and public actors around the world. The intern will acquire direct practical experience in PPD Asia-Pacific Pilla Office in Tokyo (PPD Tokyo)’s work and the United Nations system by supporting the office’s quality assurance, analysis/research, communication and administrative tasks related to resource mobilisation with the Government of Japan activities under general guidance of the supervisor (Public Partnership Manager).

Specific tasks

Under the supervision of the Public Partnership Manager, PPD Tokyo, the intern will

  • Support the review and analysis of donor proposals and reports prepared by UNICEF Country Offices
  • Support a series of analyses of Japan’s ODA for children
  • Support translation, report writing, preparation for any Japan-related documents and presentation materials
  • Support the Team’s efforts to enhance donor visibility, through translation of press releases, videos, and human-interest stories (HIS), as well as the production of the other visibility contents for our communication platforms
  • Support UNICEF’s advocacy messages by gathering and organising information for key counterparts and media
  • Update and improve the Tokyo office’s website as necessary
  • Provide logistical and administrative support for advocacy events, consultation, workshops that the office will organize
  • Any other tasks assigned by the supervisor

Duration of assignment: Between February 2026 - January 2027 (more than 3 months, up to 6 months)

Duty station: Tokyo, Japan

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Currently enrolled in a university or a graduate school or those who graduated from schools within two years. Professional experiences are desirable.
  • Available for work for 4-5 days a week for 3-6 months. Be able to work in accordance with the Japan Standard Time (JST).
  • Interested in child rights, health, nutrition, water and sanitation, education, child protection, gender, climate change and so on, the areas where UNICEF works.
  • Experience and/or knowledge on international cooperation, humanitarian and development assistance and human security are desirable.
  • Working experience in project formulation/report writing are desirable.
  • Experience of translating communication materials is highly desirable.
  • Experience in public relations and/or event management is an asset.
  • Experience in website management and video editing are an asset.
  • A high level of proficiency in both written and oral languages of English and Japanese is required.
  • Ability to work with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work with advanced level of MS platforms such as Forms, Power BI with analytical data management skills will be an asset.
