The Pacific Private Sector Development Initiative (PSDI) is seeking a publications speclist to support the production of PSDI publications, and support other PSDI communications activities as needed.
The consultant will report to the ADB Senior Project Officer for PSDI, under the overall guidance of the Regional Director of ADB’s PLCO and day-to-day management of the Senior Impact and Visibility Specialist. This assignment falls under PSDI’s Strategic Management and Crosscutting work stream.
The position is based at ADB’s PLCO office in Sydney CBD.
Detailed Tasks and/or Expected Output
The consultant will undertake the following tasks:
a. Review and Edit drafts to ensure coherence, readability, and sound technical arguments;
b. Coordinate reviews, associated revisions and additions, and clearances with staff in PSDI, PLCO, ADB’s Pacific Department and ADB’s Department of Communications and Knowledge Management;
c. Coordinate editing and reviewing the edits recommended by ADB-assigned copyeditors and proofreaders, and coordinating revisions as required;
d. Developing graphic design and layout elements and creating associated content such as images, captions, pull quotes, and breakout boxes;
e. Coordinating and reviewing the layout and typesetting of publications with graphic designers;
f. Drafting associated publication texts such as forewords, summaries, news releases, social media, and promotional blurbs;
g. Coordinating the uploading, printing, distribution of publications.
h. Support PSDI’s communications team with other PSDI communications activities, such as social media management and reporting, as needed.
Deliverables and Time Schedule:
a. Manage the production of three Gender Inclusive Private Sector Framework Assessments (30 June 2025).
b. Manage the production of three policy briefs (30 June 2025).
c. Manage the production of PSDI’s regional tourism assessment (30 June 2025).
d. Manage the production of three Pacific tourism strategies (30 June 2025).
e. Manage the finalization of PSDI working documents (30 June 2025)
f. Development of promotional material for PSDI publications and support for launch events (30 June 2025).
g. Maintainance of the PSDI’s publications calendar and pipeline (30 June 2025).
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Essential:
• Bachelors degree in communications, journalism, social sciences, or public/business administration;
• At least 10 years of related experience in journalism, publishing, public affairs and/or with international/intergovernmental development actors;
• Demonstrated experience coordinating print publication processes;
• Proven plain English writing and editing expertise, particularly for news media or international development and related industries;
• Demonstrated ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and succinctly;
• Understanding of typesetting and graphic design principles and experience applying these to critically review publications;
• Understanding of and experience working within the organisational structure of multilateral development institutions;
• Sound knowledge of international development issues, and ability to explain them to others;
• Proficiency in use of Microsoft Word, experience with Adobe’s desktop publishing suite; and
• Excellent oral and written communications skills in English;
• Strong interpersonal and multicultural skills.
