MSF Japan opened a new position.
Purpose of this position
Reporting to Head of R&D Department, MSF France, the R&D specialist, located in Tokyo, watches the Japanese, Korean and Chinese market opportunities for humanitarian logistics and drives the development of technical logistics projects in line with operational demand. The outcomes of these projects consist in tested and validated technical solutions that are adapted to field operational context.
Main Responsibilities
1. (15%) Scope out and monitor the global technological landscape in the areas of: Solar energy, 3D printing, robotics and drone of Japanese industries and research centers
2. (70%) Research and develop new equipment, new practices and technologies in the following three areas: Solar Energy, cold chain, 3D printing, robotics and drone:
Gather formal specification requirements from the Operations Department or the Medical Department or by the Logistics Department
Manage from end to end research and development projects with MSF logistics technical officers or with the operational support center;
Identify and develop/adapt equipment for to the specific requirements of humanitarian medicine.
Oversee testing and calibration of equipment at headquarters and field in collaboration with Logistics Supervisors and Coordinators for validation.
3. (15%) Contribute to the development of R&D relevant (public or private) external partnerships, this includes:
Establish networks and cultivate relationships with targeted organizations and companies.
Act as a representative of MSF global R&D agenda within the Asia-Pacific region, including ad-hoc visits, with concurrence from Head of R&D
Support the development of relevant MSF Japan fundraising corporate partnerships
Qualifications and requirements
1. Essential skills and experience:
2 years minimum field humanitarian logistics management experience.
Fluency in English
Demonstrated technical skills in energy, cold chain, etc.
Strong Project management skills in its entire component.
Ability to represent MSF and negotiate at senior level. Rigorous, synthetic, able to present complex information in a simple way. Ability to work autonomously and generate engagement at a distance including outside of own department.
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to absorb rapidly new information and change course
Microsoft Office advanced

Salary to be defined as per MSF-J Salary Scale
Full-time employment (40 working hours per week) .
