We are looking for a highly qualified and communicative individual who will be able to cooperate with our team on a regional level.

About the position

Under the direct supervision of the Regional Director DRC MENA the successful candidate will be responsible for leading initiatives focused on enhancing DRC’s policy and advocacy responses upholding human rights and promotion of durable solutions so that no refugee must be in want of help to find protection and durable solutions. Based in Amman, Jordan, the post will support DRC’s wider work in the MENA region which is grounded in protection for displaced persons.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Regional Advisor and focal point for DRC Middle East North Africa (MENA) Regional Office on protection and mixed migration
  • Representing DRC in various fora, especially NGO advocacy working groups, and creating strong links with relevant stakeholders (UN agencies, NGOs, donors) on protection-mixed migration
  • Furthering the implementation of mixed migration as a DRC global strategic priority at regional level, exploring opportunities to add value to the sector and developing new initiatives
  • Sourcing, synthesizing and processing information and data. Writing feature articles for DRC/RMMS and contributing to other written publications as required
  • Initiating and promoting collaborative research on refugee protection issues, and strategic support for implementing a regional protection strategy
  • Technical support to Country Offices as required

Within these key areas of responsibilities the following activities, inter alia, will be expected:

  • Support DRC Country offices with technical support and raising regional protection profile
  • Information management and research comprising: the gathering and dissemination of existing data, information, legislation, news items, news archives, policies and conventions, reports, best practice experiences and working methods related to mixed migration
  • Assist with the coordination and management of relevant research initiatives in areas of interest related to mixed migration and protection; assist with advocacy, promotion of regional dialogue, networking and coordination by assisting to facilitate and coordinate consultation/technical working workshops and conferences/meetings, and to assist in the identification of areas for research or tools development
  • Support to capacity building and advice in the region in relation to mixed migration
  • Experience in an international organisation
  • Being able to live/work overseas
  • Good networking skills
  • Fluency in English

Ideally, you will also have:

  • Clear understanding of the regional mixed migration dynamic in the MENA region
  • Good IT command, solid understanding of web, and database design
  • Field protection experience from one of the concerned countries is an added advantage
  • Proven experience in leading and conducting research will be an added advantage
  • Arabic language would be an advantage.

We offer

DRC will offer the successful applicant a 12 months contract, renewable dependent on both funding and performance. You must be available to start work from 1 February 2016 and be willing and able to work in Amman, Jordan.
