Job Description

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Regional Business Development Manager will be responsible for identifying and developing new business opportunities for the company’s pharmaceutical drugs in countries in East, West and Southern Africa. This will require the individual to build strong relationships and networks with key stakeholders, leaders and decision makers at senior government departmental and ministerial levels especially the Ministries of Health, the National Drugs Authorities, Multilateral Aid Agencies and Development Partners.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Support the company in formulating a long term Regional Business Development Strategy.
  • Establish the Regional Business Development function working closely with the company’s CEO by setting the company’s regional business development vision, mission, goals, strategies and deliverables based on the company’s objectives and budget.
  • Participate in development of the organisation’s periodic strategic and operational work plans.
  • Support as well as guide the company’s management in appraising policies and strategies relating to Business Development.
  • Champion the company’s growth initiatives within the Sub-Saharan African region by leading the company’s initiatives to expand its footprint within the region.
  • Build the CiplaQCIL brand and promote it regionally and internationally, where applicable.
  • Keep abreast of new developments in the industry and competitive strategies and developments at a regional level.
  • Develop and maintain close and effective relationships and networks with both existing and potential new clients in all the countries, as well as linkages with international multilateral agencies supporting the health sector in these different countries, their suppliers and the local pharmaceutical industries and the leading drug suppliers in all these countries.
  • Use every opportunity available to promote the company’s profile, image and brand by participating in pharmaceutical trade fairs, exhibitions, promotions and all other such business development and brand awareness initiatives.
  • Represent the company at international forums whenever required

Minimum qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent in Pharmacy, Commerce, Marketing and Business Administration or any other related field.
  • At least eight years of experience in international business development at a senior level within Africa or other region.
  • Demonstrable track record of success in developing and fostering key relationships at a senior level in a government department or ministry and also with international development agencies and, or multilateral development agencies especially those supporting the health sector across Africa.
  • Demonstrable track record of business development, increasing sales and offtake contracts, preferably in the healthcare or pharmaceutical sector.
  • Very strong communication and negotiation skills, high degree of commercial awareness, with business acumen.
  • Ability to work and interact with senior executives including at board level, a high degree of initiative and ability to work independently.
