Regional Business Development Manager

(Based in Tirana, Albania)

As Business Development Manager you will support the unprecedented drive of SNV Balkans towards becoming a financially viable enterprise, independent from Dutch subsidies, by 2013.

The Balkans is in a unique period of time as the countries strive to join the European Union. Development is rapid but inequality is increasing and poverty continues to exist in rural areas and urban pockets. Within this context SNV works on rural and regional economic development, and linking EU accession with equitable development.

SNV is looking to rapidly further diversify its resource base, considering the phasing out of DGIS subsidy for the region, Next to traditional funders in the development market, of which the EU will remain the most influential, this may lead SNV to engage with alternative partners, including foundations, companies, banks, and investment funds.

Reporting to the Regional Director and working in tandem with a local business development specialist, you will support the SNV Balkans Regional Management Team, and specifically the sector leaders, in achieving regional targets set for resource mobilization. For this, you will be expected to proactively engage on market exploration, branding, partnership development. You will also quality control in proposal management, including eligibility requirement, staffing, costing and business development support systems and materials.

You will play a leadership role in ensuring that SNV Balkans is responsive to business opportunities in a highly competitive market, both in existing and as yet unexplored terrains, within the parameters of SNV’s regional strategy.

You will have a strong commitment to services orientation, excellence and a relentless commitment to finding creative solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • High quality support to meet the needs of regional sector leaders in developing appropriate business development and marketing strategies that will enable them to achieve their targets; and the needs of bid leaders in developing best quality proposals in response to individual market opportunities;
  • A consistent business development and partnership approach for the region in coherence with SNV’s corporate initiatives;
  • Strong relationships with relevant stakeholders leading to early identification and proper follow up of resource mobilisation opportunities;

Candidate profile:

  • At least 5 years successful track record in business development, including substantial (national or regional) projects, preferably in both for-profit and not-for-profit environments;
  • Preference for prior work history in Balkans c.q. EU pre-accession states.
  • Regionally relevant professional network with major donor agencies and the business sector;
  • Able to lead, stimulate, inspire and coach professionals in a proactive and entrepreneurial development context. Committed to strengthening an innovative, inspiring and dynamic work-place environment united by conviction to pursue development beyond convention.
  • Knowledge and leading-edge thinking and understanding at a strategic level of the international developmental and private sectors, relevant actors and relevant developments concerning SNV core business (advisory/consulting practice,)
  • An inspiring, effective and skilled communicator;
  • Willing and able to take risks. Businesslike and result oriented attitude. Innovative and creative;
  • Proficiency in English, including a proven track record on writing and editing proposals.

Name: Tirana, the capital city of Albania

Medical and educational facilities: Medical services are fairly good at private clinics. Pharmacies are present everywhere.

Good education facilities: Several international schools are available.

Tirana, as the capital city of Albania with a population of around , is centrally located on the coastal lowlands (altitude 200m), surrounded by hills and mountain ranges. The winters last from December till February and are rather mild. The summers are dry and warm. The security and safety situation is quite good. Tirana is a modern city with all modern facilities and commercial services. It has a large number and variety of shops, restaurants and bars; availability of food and other supplies is quite good. Medical services are fairly good at private clinics. Pharmacies are present everywhere. Several international schools are available. Good housing opportunities, if desired with garden. Electricity supply (220V) is erratic; power cuts occur regularly. For sensitive equipments, stabilizers and backups are advisable. Drinking water can be bought in bottles.

Other teams in Albania are generally located in more mountainous regions of Albania, 4 to 5 hours drive from Tirana. Road conditions vary from very poor (high clearance vehicles necessary) to paved mountainous roads in fairly new condition.
