KEES has been exclusively retained by The Washington Institute for Near East Policy in its search for a Regional Director of Development, Midwest.

The Washington Institute for Near East Policy (The Washington Institute) seeks its first Regional Director of Development, Midwest who will bring significant relationship building experience, a keen interest in the Middle East, an entrepreneurial spirit, and an impressive record of securing donations of 5 figures or greater from individuals or families/family foundations. An integral contributor to The Washington Institute’s sophisticated development strategy, the Regional Director of Development, Midwest will steward and grow a portfolio comprised of select high net worth donors and prospects. The successful candidate will work with the National Director of Development Dan Heckelman and 3 other Regional Directors of Development around the United States to execute the organization’s development plan.

Based in the Midwest (Chicago area preferred), the Regional Director of Development holds responsibility for a portfolio of donors and prospects in the states of Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Minnesota, and Wisconsin as well as other nearby areas as needed. Reporting directly to the National Director of Development based in Washington, D.C., the Regional Director of Development, Midwest will be expected to expertly establish their region and build the necessary infrastructure to raise at least $1M annually in new or increased dollars in the portfolio by year three.

Some specific requirements include:

· A minimum of 5 years of focused major gifts work or in a public policy or advocacy role with significant donor stewardship experience, or in a profession focusing on management of high-net-worth decision makers and influencers. Will also consider comparable experience in other relationship-driven professions.

· Proven fundraising skills, including major donor development, with experience in proactive donor cultivation and tailored solicitations. Ability to prospect, cultivate, solicit, and secure investment in mission from high-net-worth individuals.

  • Interpersonal and communication skills, with the aptitude to relate to individuals and groups diplomatically and tactfully. Ability to relate to high-level donors and effectively communicate The Washington Institute’s mission and achievements.

· An independent thinker who is willing to forge their own path, work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet established deadlines and goals.

· A solid understanding and network with relevance to the Middle East and experience working with philanthropists interested in international relations and policy is highly desired.

· Chicago or Midwest-focused Major Gift fundraising experience is required.

  • Computer proficiency; including experience with prospect research tools and fundraising databases. Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge is desired.
