Job Description
EnCompass LLC is seeking Regional Gender Officers for a project in Ethiopia that aims to strengthen the health system at all levels to support the operationalization of the governments’ Health Sector Transformation Plan. The Gender Officers will provide technical assistance and capacity building of technical staff to integrate gender into the program and its activities. The ideal candidates will have extensive experience with gender integration in the health sector, including conducting gender analysis and providing technical support. EnCompass is seeking four Gender Officers – one each based in Amhara, SNNP, Tigray, Oromia regions. These are 2-year positions with the possibility of extension based on donor approval.
Roles and Responsibilities include:
- Serve as a staff member of the project regional office with the primary role of providing technical assistance to technical staff in gender equality, female empowerment, and male engagement across the project’s four program areas: maternal and newborn health, child health, family planning, and malaria.
- Collaborate with Addis Ababa-based Gender Advisor to ensure gender integration across the project.
- Contribute in the design of a gender analysis in Project Year 1 and lead regional-level data collection.
- Engage in the regional theory of change process to ensure gender integration
- Provide capacity building for technical staff to integrate gender into their respective program areas.
- Contribute a regional perspective to the development of and provide technical support for the implementation of the project Gender Strategy.
Qualifications include:
- At a minimum, a Bachelor’s Degree with 4 years of experience or a Master’s Degree and 2 years of experience in public health, social sciences, or a related field.
- Strong technical expertise in gender analysis, gender integration, gender-based violence, and male engagement in the health sector, especially in one or more of these program areas: maternal, newborn and child health, family planning, and malaria.
- In-depth understanding of international development processes and USAID projects
- Ability to think strategically and integrate diverse information from varied sources
- Fluency in Amharic and English
- Strong technical and general writing skills
- Proven track record of successful teamwork, good presentation/facilitation skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills required
- Strong planning, organization, and strategic thinking skills
