Job Description

With limited direction, the Research and Program Officer supports the development and implementation of political, economic and development policies and programs to promote Australian interests in the Australian High Commission’s countries of accreditation.

The key responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting the implementation and development of the Australia Awards Scholarship program
  • Monitoring, researching, analysing and reporting on political, economic and development policies and programs in post’s countries of accreditation and region, particularly in relation to Mozambique and Angola
  • Establishing and maintaining a network of government, business, civil society and diplomatic contacts in post’s countries of accreditation and region, particularly in relation to Mozambique and Angola
  • Assisting to manage visits by Australian ministers and officials
  • Assist in the coordination of political, economic and development policies and programs to a high standard, fulfilling post’s economic diplomacy and public diplomacy objectives, and complying with DFAT guidelines
  • Program development, briefings and research to the Political, Economic and Development Section as required.

Qualifications/Experience

    • Relevant tertiary qualifications, or equivalent experience of political, economic and/or development policies and programs
    • Sound working knowledge of Mozambique and Angola, including political, economic trends
  • Excellent judgement and proven high level analytical skills
    • Strong liaison, representational and interpersonal skills, with ability to build and maintain networks.
  • Strong time management, organisational and communication skills.
  • Fluent written and oral communication in English.
  • Portuguese language skills highly desirable.
