Job Description
The role is responsible for overseeing the growth and development of the Project Research Team, including the development of robust methodologies, tools and approaches to data collection, analysis and reporting. Additionally, the role will build the capacity of current and future team members in order to enhance outputs and improve overall quality of insights and research utilized for advisory services as well as strategic communications products. Lastly, the role will identify key topics being discussed online in Iraq, providing analysis about those topics and performing sentiment analysis on campaign content.
You are expected to:
- Develop full research and insights function to improve current structure of the Project Research Team
- Mentoring the local research teams while monitoring their overall progress/needs for improvement
- Build the capacity of the Project Research Team to implement new processes and procedures in line with revised research function
- Ensure all insights and research outputs are of high quality and suit the needs of the Project Senior Management Team
- Perform research to identify audiences, amplifiers and information ecosystems
- Monitor publicly available data across social platforms and the web
- Collect, analyse and interpret data using social listening tools and desk research methods
- Translate insights into clear and concise reports and present them to stakeholders both internally and externally, connecting digital data with offline insight and integrating findings across the team
- Quantify impact on campaign content
- Track the evolution of narratives over time
- Alongside the other members of the team, you will develop a comprehensive understanding of the audiences and issues at the heart of our campaigns, including reading and researching more widely around the topics which matter most to them
This will involve (but is not limited to):
- Using online tools to conduct social media listening
- Analysing share of conversation on relevant platforms
- Supporting the creation and implementation of new research methodologies
- Performing sentiment analysis of online comments
- Tracking stories produced by local and regional media
- Identifying and understanding the impact of disinformation campaigns using digital metrics and analytics tools
- Writing reports
You should have the following skills:
- Arabic and English language (spoken and written)
- At least four years managing a team of five or more
- Qualitative or quantitative research experience
- Experience in international relations, journalism, fact-checking or disinformation
- Experience building research teams from scratch including the development of core methodologies, tools and approaches to tailor specific project needs
- Experience in social media analytics (including but not limited to Facebook Insights, CrowdTangle, NewsWhip, Tubular Labs)
- Understanding of the use of social media listening tools (including tools such as: Brandwatch, Talkwalker)
- Influencer identification (including tools such as: Tubular Labs)
- Excellent writing the ability to tell a compelling story with data
- A thorough, analytical approach to research and data analysis
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment, with an organised and ‘can-do’ approach to meeting deadlines
