Project Description:
The Research Intern will be a member of the Applied Research Center (ARC) Team at IFES. The Research Intern will allocate the majority of her/his time to research and web management duties related to two websites under www.ElectionGuide.org (EGuide-the IFES information portal and calendar for international elections and the EGuide Digest digest.electionguide.org—a website dedicated to emerging democracy and governance issues, events and reports). The Research Intern will also contribute to other research-based initiatives within ARC.
Job Responsibilities:
Conduct daily web searches and monitor newswires to keep up to date with information on election dates and political developments.
Track the dates of national elections and referenda and selected sub-national elections, and verify the certainty of those dates, using multiple sources and media.
Be familiar with candidates, issues, and relevant histories of said electoral events in order to write EGuide content.
Initiate and maintain contact with external experts to verify EGuide content and to stay informed of the latest research, reports and events in the DG field.
Track the output of DG-sector NGOs (currently 80+) to identify upcoming events and research reports for inclusion in the EGuide Digest.
Perform other substantive and administrative functions within ARC as needed, including other desk research, SPSS data analysis, and other projects.
Qualifications:
BS/BA or MA students in the social sciences from an accredited college or university.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Detail-oriented.
Skill in using RSS, social media to do the above tasks efficiently.
Knowledge of and interest in political and electoral institutions a plus.
Basic familiarity with Web-oriented scripting languages a plus.
Foreign language ability a plus.
