JOB SUMMARY:


The Senior Accountant serves as the lead US accountant on the Controller’s team. They are responsible for all US general ledger accounting activities, including the monthly closing process. They will ensure that account balances are properly stated, transaction descriptions are adequate, and that all supporting documentation is audit-ready. They will be responsible for ensuring that financial management practices and systems are compliant with U.S. and local laws, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and USAID regulations. The Senior Accountant provides significant support for the EngenderHealth corporate audit, and ensures that all accounts are properly reconciled. They are also responsible for oversight of subaward expense accounting for all EngenderHealth subcontractors and the allocation of indirect costs to projects based on USAID and other donor guidelines and contracts.

DUTIES:

  • Ensure all US general ledger transactions are supported by adequate documentation and evidence of appropriate approval.
  • Review and reconcile US Balance Sheet accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Record Indirect Cost Allocations for all awards on a monthly basis.
  • Serve as key contributor in the implementation of additional functionalities in the accounting software, SageX3.
  • Serve as key contributor in the implementation of Sage Enterprise Intelligence business intelligence/reporting tool.
  • Provide support to Financial Planning, Analysis and Reporting team in monitoring program project and budget center expenditures against budgets.
  • Provide technical assistance, as needed, to EngenderHealth staff on all accounting matters.
  • Serve as key contributor in preparing US books and records for internal and external audits, and responding to auditor requests.
  • Ad hoc analysis and reporting and other deliverables as requested.
  • Partner with the Global Finance Team (Sr Accountant – International, Controller, Country Office Finance leads) during audit.

REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess the following requirements with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce accurate and timely monthly closing.
  • Proven history of compiling documentation that “stands alone” under audit scrutiny.
  • Public accounting audit experience is a plus.
  • Extensive knowledge of non-profit GAAP accounting, including accounting for multi-currency transactions.
  • Experience with donor compliance and reporting, as well as revenue recognition standards for non-profit organizations.
  • Minimum seven (7) years’ experience in international non-profit or public sectors, including project accounting, fiscal audits of program activities and reporting to US government agencies, including USAID.
  • European government agency and multilateral organization reporting is a plus.
  • Experience allocating Indirect Costs to projects based on donor guidelines, particularly USAID regulations.
  • Proficient in the use of accounting software programs such as QuickBooks and SAGE X3.
  • Experience in the use of Business Intelligence Tools such as Sage Enterprise Intelligence and Jet Reports.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, SharePoint and other common accounting and finance tools.
  • Strong interpersonal and writing and oral communication skills.

  • Position located in the Unites States. DC applicants are preferred.

  • Salaries and benefits will be adjusted for the relevant job market depending on location.
