BACKGROUND INFORMATION

SNV seeks an experienced Senior Advocacy Officer for Food, Nutrition and Resilience to join a multi-country and multi-sector project on Evidence Based Advocacy. This position offers opportunities to lead and innovate, and to growing your skills and network in a fulfilling and international working environment.

This five-year project – funded by DGIS - aims at strengthening capacities of CSOs to advocate for a conducive enabling environment in WASH, Renewable Energy, Food/Nutrition and Resilience. For Food/Nutrition and Resilience, the project will be implemented together with IFPRI under the leadership of SNV. The project will be managed from the Netherlands. Its implementation takes place in six countries (Kenya, Rwanda, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Honduras and Indonesia) as well as at the global level. The Senior Advocacy officer will report to the Project Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Lead further project design and implementation;
  • Guide and support project implementation in designated countries in the field of capacity development of civil society organisations for evidence based advocacy;
  • Regularly monitor results and internal budgets;
  • Design, implement and monitor advocacy activities at Dutch and at international level;
  • Contribute to the overall management of the project in collaboration with the senior advocacy officers for other themes;
  • Facilitate and contribute to knowledge development, in particular regarding evidence based advocacy and liaise with relevant stakeholders in this regard;
  • Profile and position SNV towards potentially interested donors for Evidence Based Advocacy for the specific theme and ensure additional funding through successful proposals.

Candidate profile

  • Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline;
  • Up to date knowledge of academic and donor thinking in the respective thematic field;
  • Sound experience in Food and Nutrition or Resilience;
  • High level experience with evidence based advocacy;
  • Experience with Capacity Development of Civil Society Organisations;
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work with teams operating at a distance;
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills;
  • Excellent donor relations management (e.g. DGIS) and negotiation skills as well as high level interaction experience with think-tanks, national governments and international fora;
  • Excellent Dutch and English communication, reporting and presentation skills.

Contract type and duration

A national contract for 2 years with possible extension. An international package is not foreseen.
