£59,756 pa + benefits

We have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Communications Officer, to work within the Communications Division at the Commonwealth Secretariat.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the implementation of the Commonwealth Secretariat’s communications strategy, which involves proactive media outreach and a range of public affairs activities. S/he will be expected to create communications proposals and will work with the wider team to execute them. The Senior Communications Officer will use a wide range of tools and techniques to ensure brand visibility and create compelling messaging in line with the Commonwealth Secretariat’s Strategic Plan.

Other responsibilities entailed in this role include (but are not limited to):

· Creating communication plans and implementing initiatives to educate, influence and engage our target audience.

· Developing contacts and maintaining relationships with key journalists across the Commonwealth.

· Managing and collaborating with colleagues, stakeholders and suppliers to deliver communications content that stays on message, adheres to brand standards and contributes to the visibility of the Secretariat’s work.

· Coordinating and supervising press conferences, media briefings and interviews as high-level events like the Commonwealth Heads of Government meetings.

To be considered, you will need a Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience, in communications, journalism, media studies, international affairs or any other appropriate field. A Master’s degree would be desirable.

You will also need at least seven years of experience as a reporter or correspondent in a media organisation and/or in an external communications role.

Competency in audio-visual or print journalism is desirable. Significant experience in supporting climate action and/or experience working in the Pacific region would also be an advantage.
