We are looking for a Senior Consultant with experience in promoting the adoption of clean energy (renewable energy/energy efficiency) and clean technology products and business models in emerging markets and developing countries.
The Senior Consultant will join the Renewable Energy and Clean Tech team and will work with the team to develop, win, lead and contribute to consulting projects that promote the clean energy and clean tech sector in emerging economies for a range of market segments, including the Base of the Pyramid (BoP), small and medium sized businesses, ESCOs and corporations.
They will combine expertise on clean tech & clean energy technologies with private sector development, business model design and energy financing mechanisms (includes willingness to pay, cost-benefit analyses, innovative finance solutions such as PAY as you Go).
* Clean energy refers to clean(er) generation and distribution of energy, Specifically, we work on sustainable business models to adopt renewable energy in developing and emerging markets, both off and on grid.
* Clean technology refers to the adoption of green(er) and more resource efficient operations or value / production chains.
The Senior Consultant works with experts in entrepreneurship development, business development services, corporate social responsibility and green growth, as well as inclusive finance experts. The position is based in the Netherlands, but requires regular travel abroad. As the position is based in Utrecht, the Netherlands, the applicant must already have appropriate work authorization for The Netherlands, and be based in the Netherlands or willing to relocate.
The primary responsibilities include:
Technical input
* Provide technical input into the design, planning and delivery of projects;
* Provide short term inputs and/or consultancy assignments;
* Contribute to research, analysis and publication of technical studies, case studies, policy and programme approaches and results;
* Identify, build and maintain relationships with consultants and partners who can provide technical expertise;
* Support the team in building Palladium’s technical capacity in the field
* Develop new products and services and contribute to the expansion of Palladium’s network and marketing activities
Business Development:
* Support the strategic approach to business development through coordination of research on issues, countries, clients, partners and competitors and market intelligence gathering;
* Manage the development of new and maintenance of existing client relationships through interactions with clients at a technical level during the business development cycle;
* Manage the identification, assessment and pursuit of new business opportunities, contributing to the analysis of our prospects for winning opportunities;
Project Management:
* For assigned portfolio projects, interface with clients and other project stakeholders to plan, implement, review and report on projects as needed and requested;
* Provide support to project work planning, budgeting, progress and financial reporting;
* Provide technical support to projects at all stages;
* Manage partner organisations on the contractually compliant delivery of agreed inputs and achievement of agreed outputs and outcomes;
Requirements
* An academic background in a relevant field, such as business, development studies or environmental management is preferred
* Significant working experience on promoting clean energy in emerging markets/developing countries, of which some experience should be in-country.
* Proven experience in promoting access to (clean) energy for both on-grid as well as off-grid communities (policy, finance, market)
* Proven experience in the adoption of clean technologies Knowledge of workable business models for technologies such as solar PV, pico-hydro, hydro mini-grids or related topics is considered an asset.
* Strong project and client relationship management skills. Preferably experience with consultancy
* Willingness and ability to lead business development efforts and to meet targets for new business capture
* Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, coupled with proven conceptual and analytical ability and a relevant network
* Hands-on, entrepreneurial approach with passion for building new programs and driving to innovative solutions
* Willingness to undertake regular short term missions to emerging economies.
* Excellent command of the English language, both written and spoken. Excellent writing skills.
* Knowledge of the French language is considered a strong asset.
