The Senior Curriculum Advisor will report to the Director of Education and will lead on all issues related to the work of the Curriculum at UNRWA HQ in Amman.

Responsibilities

- Provides strategic leadership and guidance on all issues pertaining to Curriculum implementation and review at UNRWA;

- Works closely with the Quality Learning and Student Assessment (CQLSA) Unit at UNRWA HQ in ensuring curriculum delivery that is in line with United Nations values and principles and supports quality teaching and learning of UNRWA students to the highest quality standards; conducts analysis of relevant data, identifies issues and trends and makes recommendations to improve Agency policy framework on curriculum issues;

- Develops and implements a capacity building strategy through conceptualizing, and overseeing the organization and delivery of training on the teacher-centred approach, which will support and raise awareness on teaching in line with United Nations values and principles and quality standards. Is responsible for the continued Agency’s efforts in institutionalizing and ensuring that UNRWA teaching and learning finds the correct balance with regard to political, religious and identity narratives in the applied curricula used for the education of the refugees;

- Assumes a key role in establishing professional networks, both inside and outside UNRWA, to ensure that UN principles are adhered to in the applied curricula used for the education of UNRWA students;

- Leads, in close coordination with the Spokesperson and other colleagues within the Executive Office, on communicating with different stakeholders, including donors, partners, and Ministries of Education in the MENA Region on issues pertaining to Curriculum as well as on the development of key messages, talking points, and external strategic briefs concerning curriculum;

- Leads on research and the provision of technical advice to the development, planning, implementation and monitoring of student assessment processes, materials, and tools.

Education

- An advanced university degree from an accredited educational institution in education, organizational development and management, social sciences, international relations or a related field.

Work Experience

At least eight years of progressively responsible and relevant professional experience at national and international levels in fields related to education, curriculum development and review;

A minimum of 2 continuous years of relevant international experience outside UNRWA, and outside the country(s) of which the candidate is a national or holds citizenship, a passport, or a national identity number.

Languages

- Excellent command of written and spoken English;
- Excellent command of written and spoken Arabic (Desirable).

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Special Notice

Type of Contract and duration: 2 years, with the possibility of further extension.

The Senior Curriculum Advisor will be based in Amman and may be required to travel throughout the Agency’s area of operation in the Middle East and beyond.

Applicants have to complete the Personal History Profile (PHP) in inspira in order to be considered. The PHP should be completed with full relevant work experience as per the requirements in the Job Opening, in order to be considered.

A roster may be created from the selection exercise, and successful candidates may become eligible for appointment to the same post or a similar post.

Equivalency:
A first level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.
