Devex is assisting a global non-governmental environmental organization to look for a Senior Development Manager to be based in the Latin American region.

As a Senior Development Manager, you will lead a team in providing strategic and enabling support and advice to the leadership of NRO’s. You will advise the Development Director and the Management Team with the aim of keeping the global organisation aligned, growing and developing. You will also line manage, coach and develop the Development Manager(s), giving them responsibility for less complex offices and other related tasks.

Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Contribute to the development of the overall organisational strategy by staying updated on relevant geopolitical developments and trends, identifying opportunities for new offices or downsizing current offices, participate as needed in global projects spearheaded by the Development Department.
  • Lead and manage the development and approval of the NRO’s Three Year Strategic Plan (3YSP) and annual Organisational Development Plan (ODP) to ensure they are aligned with the global organisation’s strategy.
  • Monitor NRO performance against agreed strategic plans to identify challenges faced by the NRO’s in order to propose the development of global initiatives to enable NRO’s to improve their performance.
  • Coordinate with NRO supportive functions to support and enable specific NRO’s and act as a mediator between different units and decision makers.
  • Facilitate networking, knowledge sharing and best practices between NRO’s to maximise synergies and opportunities for collaboration while ensuring that MT and GLT are informed of the progresses, issues and challenges facing NRO’s.
  • Provide analysis and recommendations for any emerging or looming crisis in NRO’s and be prepared to stand in as an interim NRO leader or in a management capacity in order to resolve the crisis.
  • Represent the organization in the NRO Boards and act as the primary point of contact for Board Chairs and ED’s in relation to governance matters, as well as ensuring the governance systems are in line with the Framework Agreement, all formal contracts between NRO’s and the organization are complete and updated, contribute to global governance system standards and practices and ensure high quality recruitment and induction of new ED’s.
  • Mentor and train NRO leaders and members of the NRO Development Department by actively contributing to the global leadership development programmes: organisational management, crisis management and resolution, programme integration, etc.
  • Assign and delegate the responsibility for dealing with less complex NRO’s as well as developing partner Development Manager(s) through objective setting, performance reviews, coaching, training and development.

What we are looking for:

  • Minimum 5 years experience as Executive Director or CEO of a country or regional office within an international non-profit organisation OR Minimum 5 years of experience as a Development Manager or equivalent position in a similar organisation (senior management level), with increasing responsibilities and increasing complexity of portfolio
  • Academic or higher education qualification preferably in Management, Business or Finance
  • People management experience in multicultural or international settings
  • Project management experience, and ideally change management experience
  • Excellent communication, presentation and networking skills. Able to engage multiple stakeholders at a senior level (ED’s, MT & Boards) and build to consensus around a clear course of action
  • A good track record of delivering complex programs or projects involving capacity building and/or significant knowledge sharing activities
  • Willing to seek and consider diverse ideas and approaches in order to find creative solutions to complex problems
  • Ability to work as part of an international and multi-cultural team
  • Strong Programme and/or Campaign leadership experience would be preferable
  • Excellent written and spoken English is essential, fluency in other languages would be an advantage
  • Willingness to travel
