Role definition

Role purpose

This role has oversight and responsibility for Christian Aid’s expression of its brand and impact online. You will own, govern and inspire our content across our main website, email marketing and our social media channels.

Key outcomes

  • The Digital Senior Content Editor has overall responsibility for ensuring that content on the Christian Aid Website and other online channels inspires support providing a powerful expression of Christian Aid’s brand and impact.
  • The post holder is responsible for publishing of comprehensive, timely and accurate content generated by a number of teams and Departments across the organisation but based primarily in our fundraising department.

Applied skills/knowledge and expertise

Essential

  • Understanding of how user research, multi-variant testing and analytics should be used to drive content creation and strategy. Using Google Analytics and split testing tools to evaluate content and set goals.
  • Able to work closely with web developers (in an agile environment) and fundraisers on site improvements, scope out and test new functionality and advise on new content features.
  • Has up-to-date practical experience of publishing technology including content management systems such as WordPress or Drupal
  • Good experience of using InDesign and Acrobat professional
  • Substantial experience as an editor in a fast-paced, high-volume environment such as a digital or editorial/comms team.
  • Ability to work autonomously and creatively on individual projects and campaigns taking responsibility for sourcing and editing content in partnership with others
  • High levels of interpersonal and influencing skills – confident and capable in pitching to and speaking with stakeholder teams.
  • Adaptable writing style to meet differing stakeholder needs while retaining overall tone of voice and house style requirements. Able to take original copy from others, edit and repurpose for consumption in an online environment.
  • The ability to work independently on behalf of Christian Aid during emergencies
  • A good head for understanding and undertaking research, helping to define taxonomy website structures used to organise content and produce wireframes to support the development of new web content
  • Able to produce content that is effective, engaging and adheres to good UX principles and SEO across website, social media and through our email marketing.

Desirable

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of charity / not for profit sector
  • Interest in and some knowledge of International affairs
  • Qualifications in journalism, PR or marketing communications (or equivalent experience obtained over a number of years)
  • Understanding of the needs of the Christian faith community (from individuals in congregations to senior church leaders).
