Job Description
Medicines for Malaria Venture is currently seeking a Senior Director Donor Relations and Stewardship who will be working as deputy to the VP and under the leadership of the VP, Head of External Relations towards MMV’s targets of income generation and stewardship management. The person will support the team in exploring and developing new funding opportunities while being responsible for retention and donor development strategies. The Senior Director will be responsible for ensuring MMV is well-positioned in various donor markets, including bilateral development aid, international foundations and in new and proven innovative financing mechanisms.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support implementation of MMV’s fundraising plan by identifying new donor prospects and strengthening the relationships with existing donors which include bilateral, foundations, corporate, private and government donors, as well as with innovative financing mechanisms, leveraged and in-kind contributions
- Manage a portfolio of international donors from research through cultivation, solicitation and stewardship
- Stay closely aligned with MMV’s internal development to understand the compelling points for likely support from various donors
- Support the VP, Head of External Relations on new areas or directions possible for funding and on opportunities that promote the work of MMV with key stakeholders, decision-makers, key opinion leaders and policy-makers
- Ensure that all MMV programs requiring funding are well-represented to donors and that all necessary proposals and reports are developed in close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
- Ensure highest level of cooperation and partnership with donors and other key MMV stakeholders
- Represent MMV at external events in support of donor outreach and engagement
- Collaborate with colleagues from External Relations, Finance and IT system platforms to ensure that reporting systems are set up and consistently maintained to ensure timely accounting and forecasts
Education and Experience:
- Masters degree in business, economics, global or public health or international development required
- Demonstrated and recent experience in senior level donor stewardship, solid exposure in donor acquisition
- More than 10 years work experience of running multi-channel programs, either:
- bilateral/multilateral work with private or public donors,
- pharmaceutical industry experience in policy/partnership-development/government relations,
- research or finance institutions,
- governments
- Excellent track record of meeting ambitious goals, building relationships and leading multi-stakeholder projects
- Proven capability in funding-proposal and budget development
- Proven track record in developing complex funding relationships resulting in multi-million $ results
- Well-versed in international development issues with public health background preferred
- Skilled public relations strategist with significant international experience
Technical skills required:
- Fluency in English; German or other additional language skills a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to master complex issues and convey information with clarity and conviction to audiences of all sizes
- Demonstrated experience in donor presentation to small and large audiences
- Experienced in data-driven decision making

- Willing to travel, consistent with the job requirements (20%)
