Functional responsibilities


Under the overall supervision of the Senior Support Services Associate, the Senior Driver/Mechanic will conduct the following duties:

  1. Driving Responsibilities:

  • Ensure provision of reliable and safe driving services by

    • a) driving office vehicles for the transport of authorised personnel, including the deployment to the field locations, and delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items, proper storage and

    • b) meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport.

  • Ensure proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, trouble-shooting and arrangements for major repairs, oil changes, tire checks, brake maintenance, and keeping the vehicle clean.

  • Maintain accurate records of trips, mileage, and fuel consumption.

  • Ensure the availability of all required documents and supplies, including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, waiver forms, office directory, city/country maps, first aid kit, fuel logs, and necessary spare parts.

  • Take immediate actions as per rules and regulations in case of involvement in accidents.

  • Handle office documents for protocol clearance and supports clerical work as assigned.

  • Collect and deliver documents to and from relevant UN and Government organizations, including expediting staff visa and customs formalities when necessary.

  1. Mechanical Responsibilities:

  • Support with the market research by collecting quotations and documents from suppliers when needed.

  • Conduct routine inspections and basic maintenance tasks on programme vehicles and generators to ensure their proper functioning and safety.

  • Perform scheduled servicing, such as oil changes, filter replacements, and cleaning, and troubleshoot minor mechanical issues.

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and report any major repairs or spare parts requirements to the supervisor for further action.




Education/Experience/Language requirements


Education:

  • Secondary School Diploma with a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience

Experience:

  • Relevant experience is defined as experience working as a driver of a civilian vehicle for an organization or institution and experience in vehicle and/or generator maintenance.

  • Minimum 3 years of work experience as a driver with a safe driving record is required

  • Minimum one (1) year experience in minor vehicle repair and maintenance is required.

  • A valid local driver’s license is required

  • A valid Sudanese driving license (General type) is desired.

  • Experience in driving both manual and automatic transmission vehicles is required.

  • Experience and knowledge of local driving rules and regulations is required.

  • Experience of driving armored vehicles is desired.

  • Experience working with NGO and or UN is desired.

Languages:

  • Fluency in Arabic (read, write and speak) is required.

  • Intermediate level fluency in English (reading, writing, and speaking) is required.
