Job Description
This position is primarily responsible for financial management, accounting, and reporting related to LWR’s impact investing (i2) program as well as the various entities in which LWR may invest. This will include supporting the functions of operational accounting, financial monitoring and reporting, auditing, treasury and cash management, budget planning and analysis with respect to i2 activities. S/he will ensure that all i2 projects maintain a high standard of quality and integrity of financial data. This position works with global LWR finance staff on accounting, consolidation, audit support, and reporting matters related to the i2 program, as well as serves as a knowledgeable resource in strategic and due diligence matters related to i2. In addition, this position provides capacity building and technical finance and accounting assistance to international entities in which LWR invests.
DUTIES:
- Financial Reporting & Analysis (LWR)
- Responsible to ensure that LWR’s impact investing activities are properly tracked in the accounting system and consolidated in LWR’s financial statements
- Support Impact Investing leadership in LWR’s budgeting and forecasting efforts
- Review financial performance of LWR’s impact investing program and lead analysis for budget variance
- Monitor availability of restricted and unrestricted funds available for impact investing, and advise supervisors and colleagues of status
- Maintain debt and equity investment schedules, including loan amortization schedules showing interest due from investees
- Policy Development and Compliance
- Participate (and sometimes lead) policy development of various management policies for impact investment to ensure best practices, proper controls, & relevance from a finance perspective
- Ensure compliance with existing policies and principles relating to impact investments.
- Responsible for compliance with all contracts and agreements governing LWR’s specific impact investments
- Responsible for compliance with Delaware reporting and registration requirements (for LWR’s holding company LLC for impact investing)
III. Strategic Support
- Represent the Finance perspective in strategy discussions regarding Impact Investing, including the integration of Impact Investing into LWR’s traditional development programming
- Provide financial analysis of LWR’s debt and equity investments, subsidies provided to investees, and operating costs of the Impact Investing program to senior leadership for use in decision support
- Provide critical analysis of potential i2-related transactions and determine accounting and reporting requirements
- Collaborate with LWR leadership on the formation of new entities associated with i2 and ensure proper entity type and compliance with relevant regulations
- Technical Support to Investees
- Identify gaps and build capacity around accounting and finance processes, systems (including general ledger), and policies in order to establish appropriate best practices for investee organizations
- Assess required competencies for investee entities, and assist in identifying solutions where required competencies are not present
- Recommend consultation with experts around country-specific taxation or reporting requirements, as appropriate
- Will require international travel to assess and support investee entities in these areas
- Pre and post investment financial analysis of investees (potential and actual)
- Due diligence – provide a financial framework for analyzing business plans and feasibility of investments and appropriate types and levels of investment
- Review financial aspects of potential investees, business and operational plans, and identify additional diligence needed to support the i2 team’s presentation of potential investments to management and the Investment Advisory Committee
- Ongoing review of financial performance of investee entities, including budget execution, going concern analysis, and budgeting and forecasting
- Review of local audits and other financial and governance documents of investees (tax filings, Board minutes, other) to discern financial health of the company
- Assist LWR Impact Investing staff with analysis and reporting of social impact of investments (including identification of additional metrics as appropriate)
- Other General Finance duties/Support
- Other finance or accounting tasks or activities
- Representation of F &A in working groups
- Work on special projects
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree required, with a concentration in Finance or Accounting
- CPA is required
- Minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in the support of financial management activities, preferably with familiarity with both for-profit enterprises and international relief and development organizations
- Familiarity with US nonprofit GAAP required. Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and International Accounting Standards (IAS) is a plus
- Familiarity with principles of debt and equity investment and consolidation accounting
- Broad finance and accounting experience – from developing policies and controls, to accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting
- Comfort in conducting detailed financial models and analysis in Excel and presenting complex concepts in PowerPoint; position is very “hands on”
- Must have a quantitative grasp on complex issues while being able to distill the facts and focus on key business needs
- Critical thinking and judgment – ability to make independent decisions, while keeping supervisor appraised of important matters
- Excellent communication skills (interpersonal, written and spoken), with a “can-do” positive and proactive attitude
- Strong relationship management skills – quickly develop trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders;

- Willingness and ability to travel (may be up to 25% of time), possibly to remote regions which may include adverse conditions and/or disaster zones. Ability to withstand extremes of temperature and altitude;
