BACKGROUND

The market shaping team contributes to achieving Gavi’s mission by shaping the markets for vaccines and other immunisation products. This includes the objectives of ensuring adequate and secure supply of quality vaccines; reducing prices of vaccines and other immunisation products to an appropriate and sustainable level; and incentivising development of suitable and quality vaccines and other immunisation products. Guided by the Gavi Supply and Procurement Strategy, the team develops, coordinates, communicates and contributes to the implementation of evidence-based supply and procurement strategies. The team is responsible for Alliance long-term forecasting of demand and financial needs. The team both leads and contributes to identifying and finding Alliance solutions for broad questions arising from market-based health-commodity related challenges.

KEY FUNCTIONS AND DELIVERABLES

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the market shaping strategy for specific vaccines and other immunisation products consistent with Gavi’s Supply and Procurement Strategy;
  • Meet target outcomes established as part the strategy for assigned vaccines by execution of interventions and managing stakeholder accountability to interventions;
  • Maintain collaborative and productive engagement with procurement agency and industry partner counterparts.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the expert on and assume primary market shaping responsibility for, a sub-set of the vaccines or other immunisation products in scope for Gavi market shaping;
  • Work collaboratively with the Market Shaping (MS) team, other Secretariat teams and Alliance stakeholders to develop and document an evidenced-based market shaping strategy for each assigned vaccine or other immunisation product category, including prioritisation of supply and procurement objectives;
  • Translate the strategy into target outcomes for each product. Establish, prioritise and document interventions supporting each outcome and identify the parties responsible for implementation each intervention. Implement specific interventions and manage stakeholder accountability toward a portion of the interventions;
  • Collaborate with procurement agencies to ensure execution of procurement strategies that are consistent with the established strategies and expected outcomes;
  • Maintain the primary relationships with industry partners, leading to collaborative engagement and information sharing, including being the expert on current and future market dynamics and pricing considerations for assigned products;
  • Support the Head of Market Shaping on other initiatives as required in support of Gavi’s market shaping objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS

Academic:

  • Master’s degree in, Economics, Business Administration, Public Health or a closely related field.

Work experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years of professional work experience including:
  1. Vaccine or pharmaceutical marketing, business development, customer management;
  2. Strategic planning/market analysis in a pharmaceutical, consulting and/or healthcare setting;
  3. Established operational track record of excellence in achieving results;
  4. Experience in vaccine industry preferred;
  5. Partner management experience preferred.

Skills/Competencies:

  • Proven ability to develop strategic approaches and follow through to implementation with diverse collaborators;
  • Demonstrated ability to work across institutional boundaries with various teams, and utilise talent and expertise of team members in a productive way;
  • Results-oriented, entrepreneurial and hands-on approach;
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment and establish harmonious working relationship;
  • Excellent verbal communication and negotiating skills;
  • Excellent quantitative analysis skills and technical skills.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English is required;
  • Another European language would be an asset.
