Job Description

The Academy for Educational Development (AED) seeks a Senior Payroll Officer.

The Senior Payroll Officer is responsible for day to day payroll and ensures all pertinent information is entered into the payroll system. Review data entry of employees information, retroactive calculation, process and calculates overseas allowances for Field Staff, month end closing and accounts reconciliation. Upload E-Timecard to Ceridian System and reconciling Labor hours from Ceridian system to Jamis system. Other duties related to payroll. Supervise Payroll Specialist;

Responsible for ensuring all pertinent information is entered into the payroll system that will produce a pay check for employees; Responsible for reviewing paperwork submitted by or entered by the Payroll Specialist: new hires, terminations, salary changes, retro payments, direct deposits, parking, garnishments, bonus and awards, tax, AP expenses reimbursement process thru payroll; Review and process overseas allowances for field staff; Responsible for importing hours from the timecard system-Jamis into the payroll system - Ceridian and ensure there is a check and balance between the two systems; Assist in sorting and distribution of paychecks; Review and assist in preparing wire transfers information; Maintains and prepares third party sick pay to submit to Ceridian for processing; Assist Labor Distribution Officer with payroll questions and other related labor issues; Monitor and notify all overseas employees with a 673 form on file that they have reached the threshold amount allowed for the year and request to submit a new W-4 form to use for taxing purposes for the remainder of the year; Research and resolve all payroll issues; Prepare month-end and year-end closing and reconciliation of payroll general ledger accounts; Assist Payroll Director with W-2's reconciliation; Acts as back up when Labor Specialist is out of the office; Other job related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

GED or High School Diploma required. Associates or Bachelor's preferred in one of the following or related fields: Accounting, Business, Business Administration, Finance and Other Job-related Field required or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Bachelors OR Associates Degree preferred. Minimum of 7 years work experience with general accounting in a computerized system; Previous automated payroll experience required; Microsoft Excel and Word; Familiarity with Ceridian, Jamis and electronic time card programs is a plus. Minimum 4 years experience as a supervisor.

Must have a skill set to apply the generally accepted payroll practice and principles. This included the understanding of payroll procedures; Strong ability to work with numbers with conscientious attention to detail & accuracy and computer literate; Strong communications and interpersonal skills to work effectively with project staff and colleagues at all levels; Ability to work independently, under pressure, meet deadlines and effectively maintain a high level of productivity is necessary; Ability to multi task;

Must be able to work in a typical office environment;

Must be able to work extra hours and some weekends when workload requires;

Must be able to attend various training and seminars in-house and with outside vendors.
