The Synergos Institute – Senior Philanthropy Engagement Officer (North America)
Location: New York | Full-Time | Hybrid

Are you passionate about building meaningful relationships and driving social impact? Synergos is looking for a dynamic Senior Philanthropy Engagement Officer to lead member engagement and growth for our Global Philanthropists Circle (GPC) across the U.S. and Canada.

This is a unique opportunity to work with some of the world’s most thoughtful and committed philanthropists, helping them connect, learn, and collaborate on bold solutions to global challenges.

As the Senior Philanthropy Engagement Officer, you’ll be the trusted connector, welcoming new changemakers, sparking powerful collaborations, and guiding members to deepen their impact through Synergos’ Bridging Leadership approach.

Founded by Peggy Dulany and her late father, David Rockefeller, the Global Philanthropists Circle (GPC) is a unique community of philanthropists—individuals and families from more than 30 countries. The Circle brings together value-driven philanthropists committed to deepening their impact through reflection, learning, and collective action. We lead with inner work, build trust, and create brave spaces to reimagine the future of giving.

What You’ll Do

  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for GPC members in the U.S. and Canada, ensuring a personalized and high-quality experience.
  • Understand members’ philanthropic priorities and create opportunities for learning, collaboration, and system-level impact.
  • Lead membership growth by identifying, cultivating, and engaging new families aligned with Synergos’ mission.
  • Represent Synergos and the GPC at events, conferences, and private convenings across the philanthropic ecosystem.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in New York and globally to deliver a consistent and inspiring experience for all members.
  • Contribute creative ideas and leadership to enhance the GPC’s overall value proposition and global influence.
  • Facilitate opportunities for members to support and co-invest in Synergos’ Bridging Leadership initiatives in countries where we work.

What We’re Looking For

  • A strategic thinker with deep experience in philanthropy, social investment, family office advisory, or related fields ideally, 10+ years.
  • Creative connector who inspires and mobilizes others around shared values and bold ideas.
  • Proven relationship builder with a strong track record in partnership development and new business growth.
  • Someone with in-depth knowledge of the North American philanthropic landscape, and a global perspective on giving trends.
  • A curious and solutions-oriented mindset—you see opportunities where others see challenges.
  • Exceptional listening and communication skills, with the ability to ask the right questions and present ideas that spark action.
  • The emotional intelligence, integrity, and gravitas to build trust across cultures and generations.
  • A self-starter who thrives in a collaborative, mission-driven global team.

Why Synergos?

About the Organization

The name "Synergos" comes from the Greek root meaning "working together." We build networks, help create partnerships, and share our knowledge to bring about long-term changes in places where people face poverty and social injustice. For over twenty years, Synergos has addressed the underlying causes of poverty and inequity in Africa, Asia and the Americas. We have built innovative partnerships among governments, businesses, civil society organizations, and individual leaders and philanthropists. And we have strengthened local leadership, capacity and institutions to participate in those partnerships and help develop local solutions to overcome poverty and promote social justice. About Synergos These women are members of a hat weaving cooperative in Sigsig, Ecuador, supported by our partner, the Esquel Foundation. Founded in 1986, Synergos is a nonprofit organization that brings people together to address the underlying causes of poverty and inequity in innovative ways that lead to meaningful, long-term change. Synergos builds and supports networks of leaders engaged in efforts to reduce poverty and increase equity around the world. We work with these philanthropists and civil society leaders, as well as with community-based groups, businesses, governments, foundations and international organizations, to make sustainable systems changes that enhance the opportunities for and help meet the needs of those who are poor and marginalized. Drawing on over 20 years of experience bringing people together across divides, Synergos explores, forms, facilitates and supports partnerships that include and respect the wisdom of all key stakeholders. We also work to develop the local leadership, capacity and institutions that are needed to sustain these initiatives. In addition, we share our learning and those of others in order to increase the impact of our combined work. Synergos was founded by Peggy Dulany, who now serves as the organization's Chair. Our staff of 40 is headquartered in New York and onsite in Latin America and Southern Africa. Synergos' work is supported by private foundations, international agencies, corporate donations, and individual and family contributions.
