The role
Malaria is endemic in the Solomon Islands. It continues to be a core concern of the Solomon Islands Government and progressive reduction in malaria incidence has been achieved. The Ministry of Health and Medical Services requires an Adviser to support these efforts to control malaria. You will be accountable to, and managed by the Director of the National Vector-Borne Disease Control Program (NVBDCP).
This role is expected to commence in January 2017 for a period of 12 months.
Key objectives:
• Strengthen logistics and supervisory support systems at the national and provincial levels in support of NVBDCP achievement of Global Fund indicators
• Improve integration of malaria reporting into the District Health Information System (DHIS2)
• Increase availability of Malaria Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDTs) and antimalarial drugs at facility level
• Work with senior managers and other relevant stakeholders to ensure nurses receive training in the diagnosis and treatment of malaria
• Ensure malaria reporting meets Global Fund performance indicator requirements
• Implement the NVBDCP 2017 Annual Operational Plan and develop the 2018 Annual Operational Plan and associated budget support documentation
Selection criteria:
• Tertiary qualifications in Public Health or Health Management
• At least 10 years in public health program management, including managing a national malaria or national public health program
• Broad health program management, financial management and risk management experience at a senior level
• Experience working in developing countries, preferably the Pacific, and proven track record in working with staff from these countries
• Demonstrated ability to shape strategic direction, develop and implement policy, and manage change in a complex operating environment
