R4D is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic Senior Program Associate (SPA) to join our Global Health Team and provide technical and program management support to a range of R4D’s health programs, such as the Health Systems Strengthening Accelerator, the Medicines, Technologies, and Pharmaceuticals Program (MTaPS), and the Primary Health Care Performance Initiative.

This position is based in Washington, DC and will report to the Senior Program Officer.

Responsibilities:

The Senior Program Associate will serve as a key member of project teams, contributing technical assistance to specific health system challenges and supporting implementation of project activities. Responsibilities of the SPA will encompass administrative, project management, research, and communication tasks. Potential responsibilities include:

  • Providing support on a range of project management and administrative tasks, including: developing contracts, budgeting and expenditure tracking, and funder progress reports; organizing meetings and workshops; coordinating travel arrangements; and developing proposals
  • Conducting qualitative and quantitative analysis on technical and policy issues related to health systems and financing
  • Producing highly polished presentations, concept notes, briefing materials, and other products such as blog posts, newsletters, meeting summaries, thought pieces, and e-communications on key topics of interest
  • Fostering collaborative relationships with country and technical partners
  • Performing other duties as necessary
  • Consideration for these roles will be given to health professionals with
  • A clear understanding of health system challenges in the developing world;
  • Experience and expertise in health economics, health financing, or service delivery innovation;
  • Experience working on pharmaceutical financing and pricing policies;
  • Experience working in Asia regional countries;
  • Experience working on USAID or other donor-funded initiatives; and
  • The ability to meet rigorous timelines, track results and effectively manage multi-stakeholder relationships.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in relevant field (economics, political science, public policy, international affairs, public health) and minimum 1 year of relevant work experience (a research institution, government, bilateral or multilateral development agency, consulting firm, NGO, or think tank) OR Bachelor’s degree in relevant field and minimum 3 years of work experience;

Projects will require a variety of skillsets, and successful candidates will demonstrate experience in one or more of the following categories:

  • Stakeholder analysis
  • Adaptive learning
  • Public financial management
  • Ability to set priorities and handle multiple competing time and resource demands, highly organized
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-starter with demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Experience living/working in a low or lower-middle income country is highly desired
  • Foreign language fluency, particularly in French, is highly desired
