DAI is seeking a Senior Project Manager to join our busy Human Development Team. This will be a full-time, permanent role. The role can be based in our London or Hemel Hempstead office.

The role will require managing a portfolio of projects ensuring that the client receives excellent services and projects exceed technical and financial performance expectations (manage). Delivering technical assistance as appropriate (deliver). Contribute to building the technical expertise of the wider Delivery Unit (build). Providing technical and management inputs into proposals (win).

RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Management
Deliver small-scale or medium-scale projects while working within an established
program management plan.

Project Risk and Issue Management
Identify and evaluate risks, issues, dependencies, and constraints associated
with the project, escalating where appropriate. Where necessary, develop, agree
on, and implement solutions to overcome these.

Contract Management
Deliver required outcomes by managing day-to-day relationships with contract
service providers within allocated projects.

Project Reporting and Review
Manage the project review process; provide stakeholders with accurate and
relevant information and key recommendations at agreed review points to enable
them to evaluate progress and agree on change.

Client & Customer Management (External)
Manage relationships with clients while also helping senior colleagues manage
more important client and customer relationships.

Resource Management
Manage the deployment of project resources, proactively managing project
costs, providing forecasts, and presenting variances with narrative at appropriate
review points to ensure effective utilization.

Stakeholder Engagement
Contribute to stakeholder engagement through identifying stakeholders, finding
out their needs/issues/concern and reacting to these by arranging meetings and
events and drafting supporting materials to promote understanding and
commitment.

Project Budgeting and Costing
Deliver project budgets and conduct complex analyses on budget progress
across allocated projects.

Leadership and Direction
Communicate the project action plan; explain how this relates to the function’s
strategy and action plan and the broader organization’s mission and vision;
motivate people to achieve local business goals.

Performance Management
Develop and propose own performance objectives; take appropriate actions to
ensure achievement of agreed objectives, using the organization’s performance
management systems to improve personal performance. OR Manage and report
on project team performance; set appropriate performance objectives for direct
reports or project / account team members and hold them accountable for
achieving these, taking appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure
the achievement of team / personal objectives.

Portfolio Management
Plan and deliver small projects or workstreams using an appropriate project
management methodology to give assurance that intended outcomes are
achieved.

Essential skills and experience:

  • General Education University or equivalent in relevant work experience
  • Extensive experience in project management in international development
  • Experience enables job holder to deal with the majority of situations and to advise others
  • Experience of supervising and directing people and other resources to achieve specific end results within limited timeframes.
  • Commercially astute with demonstrable aptitude in client service and management
  • Good understanding of proposal development, programme management systems and standards
  • Excellent level of written and verbal English (able to write technically, and to write client reports; along with excellent communication skills. Also, the ability to negotiate in contexts with complex, cross cultural, multi-lingual teams).
  • Driven and motivated combined with the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships both internally and externally to deliver against programme and business targets
  • Flexibility, versatile and tolerant in a changing work environment with the ability to work effectively under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Willingness to travel to any of DAI’s countries of operation

Desirable:

  • Post-graduate degree in relevant field or equivalent in experience
  • Experience in or knowledge of relevant technical areas (human development, and/or private sector development, and/or governance).
