We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Research Manager with strong quantitative evaluation skills and experience of international development to join our team. This is a permanent and full-time position although part-time hours will be considered. Locations are our offices in London, Birmingham or Leeds UK.
About the role
The Senior Research Manager will join our team of 40+ evaluators and researchers who are currently overseeing a growing number of high-profile policy and programme reviews and evaluations, including for the UK Department for International Development (DFID), the Independent Commission for Aid Impact (ICAI), British Council, and other international NGO and government clients. You will be involved with delivering research, evaluation and consultancy projects in the fields of education, economic development, health, governance and citizenship, amongst others. Uniquely, you will have the opportunity to apply your quantitative research skills to other market areas and clients of Ecorys, for example for the UK Department for Education and European Commission. You will also have the opportunity to work with our external partners, both UK and overseas academics and consultants, including some of the leading names in their fields.
You will have the autonomy to manage medium to large-sized research projects, controlling budgets and timescales and overseeing teams of other researchers and experts. You will design and oversee impact evaluations, using research designs appropriate to the intervention. This will involve a variety of primary, secondary, qualitative and quantitative research methods, including survey design, sampling and econometric and other statistical analysis. Furthermore, you will successfully conclude projects through the production of high quality written reports, presentations, articles and use of other dissemination channels. As a key part of the role, you will be expected to work with Ecorys directors to lead proposals for new work, and to actively research opportunities to grow the company’s portfolio of international projects and network of experts.
Due to the nature of research, this role requires a DBS check and some international travel (average of 7-10 days at a time).
The ideal person
You will be experienced in evaluation with strong knowledge of public policy clients and markets relevant to international monitoring, evaluation and learning, but looking to step up to a new challenge. In particular, you will be a strong quantitative methodologist with the ability to design and implement experimental/quasi experimental impact evaluations, and oversee mixed-methods approaches. This should include experience of supporting and overseeing survey data collection including in a developing country context. You will have a good quality first degree and a Master’s degree in international development, economics, research methods or related subjects. In addition to strong technical skills, you will need to be equally enthusiastic about business development, with some track record in winning new projects or research. You will be confident with building and maintaining relationships with clients and multidisciplinary and multicultural research teams (including academic and in-country partners). An excellent level of written English and strong presentation skills are essential.
Benefits
There is a salary of £35,000 to £42,000 per annum depending on experience. In addition we offer 25 days holiday per year, a performance-related bonus, a company pension, private healthcare and more.
