Job Description

Project Description:

Global public opinion has been called the world?s ?Second Superpower?, but a yawning gap persists between the views and values of the world?s peoples and the policies that govern them.

Res Publica, in partnership with , is launching an online activist community to fill this gap using the proven organizing techniques of online activism. The community will address pressing global issues of peace, justice, human rights and the environment with effective and edgy trans-national actions.

The organization will begin with 20 full time staff located in 6 countries and a much larger number of volunteers, and will follow an ambitious growth path. It will launch with 700,000 members spread across 148 countries. An Advisory Board for the project comprises politicians, diplomats, activists and celebrities from around the world.

Job Openings:

Chief Operating Officer: will be responsible for planning and overseeing the operational set up and ongoing management of all aspects of the organization, including: HR; legal; financial; internal communications; IT and; physical infrastructure.

International Organizing Director: will be responsible for building and managing an international network of staff and volunteers, and creating partnerships with organizations globally to develop and amplify campaigns.

Advocacy Director: will be responsible for developing and implementing both online and offline campaigns, including identifying the issues, policy windows, and advocacy targets, and creating compelling actions, messages and policy alternatives.

All positions will report directly to the CEO.

Experience and Qualifications:

COO: should have at least 5yrs senior management experience, be an excellent team player, and be comfortable managing in a highly flexible, start-up environment with shifting strategies and challenges and a young (early 30s) team. Experience in the campaigning, marketing or high tech sector would be ideal. Strong financial management skills are required.

IOD: should have at least 3yrs international management or organizing experience and an outstanding record of team building in the non-profit sector. Campaigning experience would be a big plus; must be passionate about global community and building cross-cultural understanding.

AD: should have at least 3yrs campaigning, organizing or advocacy experience and an outstanding record of campaigning success. Experience with international campaigns and e-advocacy would be ideal. Must be a self-starting entrepreneur, able to take a campaign from conception to delivery.

Starting Salary: $60-80,000 per annum, may vary with experience and location, plus benefits package.
