Position Mandate

The Senior Associate on the Natural Resource Management Sector Team will provide critical technical expertise throughout project life cycles and play a vital role in our business development efforts across the firm’s natural resource management portfolio. The Senior Associate will support thought leadership, business development, and technical implementation of projects related to private sector engagement and market-based approaches related to natural resources management, preferably in the areas of energy and/or water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). The Senior Associate will support Resonance’s technical implementation of multiple complex US- and field-based USG-funded natural resource management contracts, as well as related corporate sustainability projects. They will also lead capture and proposal development for USG, other donor, and corporate contracts.

This is a full-time position based in Burlington, VT, or Washington, DC reporting to the Director, Natural Resource Management. Ability to travel 20% internationally on short notice required.

OUTCOMES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Technical Direction and Client Engagement

  • Serve as a technical expert for Resonance’s natural resource management engagements with donor, industry, non-profit, foundation, and other clients across Resonance’s Project/Client Delivery Units, preferably in the fields of energy and/or WASH
  • Act as technical resource for clients, partners, delivery teams, and field staff by providing technical direction, leading sectoral innovation, designing and testing new models and approaches, and generating compelling reports and presentations on private-sector engagement and market-based approaches for natural resource management issues
  • Share lessons learned across projects and activities to strengthen field work, scale-up successes, and test concepts in new locations and contexts
  • Provide technical management and oversight of Resonance technical tasks and workstreams (e.g. research, private sector landscape analyses, trainings, etc.), as well as consultants and field teams to ensure high quality outcomes
  • Mentor US- and field-based staff in technical implementation and use of Resonance’s approaches and tools.
  • Design and facilitate workshops, co-creation sessions, partnership development, etc.

Business Development

  • Lead and contribute to efforts that explore and develop opportunities with donor, commercial, impact investment, non-profit, and philanthropic clients, particularly USAID headquarters and field prime bids
  • Draft and prepare proposals, pitch decks, and other business development resources
  • Maintain, expand, and enhance Resonance’s business and partner network, including commercial, foundation, and NGO partners
  • Serve as a member of proposal development teams, including as lead technical writer and/or proposal Chief

Thought Leadership

  • Draft blog posts and articles that demonstrate and advance Resonance’s leadership at the intersection of natural resource management and private sector engagement, partnerships, investment, enterprise development, innovation, etc.
  • Raise Resonance’s profile through select speaking engagements at industry and sector events

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree in International Relations, Public Administration, Business Administration, Natural Resource Management, or other relevant field
  • 8+ years of professional experience in a global development and/or management consulting context, preferably with field implementation experience
  • Technical expertise in natural resource management, preferably in energy and/or WASH
  • Proven capability in private sector engagement
  • Demonstrated ability to lead business development efforts in USAID context
  • Demonstrated emotional intelligence and ability to build strong collaborative relationships with a diverse range of colleagues, partners, and stakeholders
  • Outstanding verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong organizational skills, including task and time management
  • Eligibility to work in US

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

  • Experience in energy and/or WASH
  • Global development field implementation experience
  • Fluency in Spanish, French, or Arabic

TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS
