We are looking for a (m/f) consultant who shall be in charge of consulting Myanmar garment factories on enhancing Sustainable Manufacturing Practices (SMP), in particular with regard to Chemical Management and Environmental Management. The consultant will lead a group of local engineers in conducting consultancies with factories on safe chemical use, reduction and management of hazardous chemicals and environmental managements.
SMART Myanmar 2.0 is a sequa led project in Myanmar, which is being financed by the European Union’s SWITCH programme.
In terms of sustainable production the SMART Myanmar 2.0 project provides advisory services for the Myanmar garment sector in Yangon and other evolving garment locations. The project’s objective is to institutionalise, up-scale and replicate successful sustainable manufacturing practices which were first developed and piloted during SMART Myanmar 1.0. The project continues to prepare SMEs from the garment sector in Myanmar to produce sustainably manufactured garments which are then marketed to buyers in Europe and Asia. These sustainably produced garments shall meet the requirements of international – and in particular – European clients, regarding social and environmental standards.
The SMART Myanmar project team in Myanmar consists of an International Team Leader who manages all SMART staff (incl. the technical experts) and one Senior Technical Expert for Social Compliance and HR Management.
The local partner is the Myanmar Garment Manufacturers Association (MGMA). The Project is supported by the German Foreign Trade Association of German Retail Trade (AVE – Außenhandelsvereinigung des Deutschen Einzelhandels e.V.), Dutch organization Made-by and the Philippines based Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific (ADFIAP).
The current project phase commenced on 1 January 2016 and shall end on 31 December 2019.
