The Middle East and North Africa MENA - Institutional Support Services (MENA-ISS) offers staff support services for USAID regional and bilateral programs, this support is demand driven. Consequently, we receive requirements for staff support services with immediate need.

Job Title: Short-term Arabic-English-Arabic interpretation and

translation services for both verbal and written

communications.

Job Location: Amman, Jordan

BACKGROUND

USAID/Yemen is seeking remote, short-term Arabic-English-Arabic interpretation and translation services for both verbal and written communications.

It is anticipated that during this period of performance, The incumbent will provide remote translation services.

Translator Translate documents of technical, scientific, economic and political nature, where the use of complex and arcane technical terminology is ongoing and the need for correct transmittal of both meaning and tone is vitally important. The material involves myriad topics and subjects where a fully-developed understanding of complex subjects and their subtexts is a prerequisite. It is critical that translations are of the highest quality and readily understandable to readers. The material may also require the incumbent to be familiar with the development and diplomatic terminology. Documents translated may include technical manuals, laws, governmental regulations, scientific studies, technical specifications, and legal and financial documents.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A) Verbal Communications (70%)

Professional interpretation (consecutive and/or whisper) (English to Arabic and Arabic to English). The contractor will provide in-person consecutive or simultaneous whisper translation for meetings, phone calls, conferences, and other events with generally no more than 8-10 recipients per meeting. The contractor will provide remote consecutive or simultaneous whisper translation for all USAID/Yemen technical staff. Estimated service is up to 40 hours per month, and will be arranged in advance by USAID/Yemen staff as needed.

B) Written Communications (30%)

Written translation of documents (English to Arabic and Arabic to English), including legal, regulatory, technical, and other official documents, as well as social media posts, fact sheets, website content, and other public communication materials. The estimated number of pages is up to 250 pages during the performance period. The required response time is 3 business days, with the ability to deliver on the same day when urgent documents are required.

EXPECTATIONS:

· Be available, sometimes on extremely short notice, to provide remote translation via phone, Google Meet,

· Webex, FaceTime, or other electronic medium.

· Confirm the receipt of documents for translation within 4 hours and provide the expected date of completed

· Translation and submission.

· The incumbent will be required to sign a non-disclosure agreement with USAID/Yemen due to sensitive

· Information that may come to his/her knowledge during or as the result of the execution of this contract.

Timeline

Services are requested for the period from May 23, 2022 - September 30, 2022, with the option of extension. Estimated 10 hours per week.

EDUCATION, REQUIREMENTS, AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

· Excellent oral and written communication skills.

· Prior experience as an English-Arabic-English translator. Arabic fluency at Level IV.

· A minimum of five years of experience with a non-governmental organization, an international assistance

· Organization, the private sector, an international organization (IO), or a U.S. Government entity.

· Demonstrated experience working constructively with high-level officials, donors, or political leaders.

· Experience with issues related to: humanitarian assistance, development; education; economic growth;

· Health; democracy and governance peace and security; human rights activities; water and sanitation; peace and political processes; or political analysis.

· Experience working with USAID is preferred.

· Experience on issues Enrelated to Yemen is preferred.

· We are looking for experienced personnel to hire for short-term periods in the US or MENA region. This position is remote work.

· The Translator position is open for U.S. citizen capable of being granted and maintaining a U.S. Government security clearance at the “secret” level and for non-U.S. citizen’s facility access.

· Professional experience working in the MENA region or demonstrated ability to quickly grasp and learn a new region.

· The selected incumbent for this position will demonstrate clear evidence of knowledge of relevant technical and regional area.

Education:

· A bachelor’s degree with minimum 5-6 year years of experience in translation services and document translation. The individual should be able to translate documents of technical, scientific, economic and political nature, including technical manuals, laws, governmental regulations, scientific studies, technical specifications, and legal and financial documents.

· Experience in providing translation services for USAID is preference, U.S. government agencies, multinational organizations, inter-government organizations, business companies, NGOs, or United Nations agencies or similar is an advantage

· Skill in the use of most elements of desktop and cloud-based office productivity

software (e.g., word processors, spreadsheets, and presentations) is required.
