Job Description

Project title: TA support to the implementation of the Transformation Triggering Facility (TTF)

Brief description of the assignment: The overall objective of this assignment is to facilitate the development of EEIBS and EEBIC at Ethiopian Airlines Group and to ensure minimum of two postgraduate programmes are launched by the business school and embryonic services are initiated by EEBIC for the benefit of EAG and the people of Ethiopia.

The specific objectives of this assignment are:

  • To initiate/ identify at least 3 universities in the UK and at least 2 more universities in the rest of European countries to establish a long-term partnership relationship for the execution of an international MBA/EMBA programs.
  • To prepare the field visit trip for the selection of the candidate universities in different European countries
  • To support the project team in the preparation and finalization of strategic plan and business plans of EEIBS and EEBIC
  • To support the EEIBS/ EEBIC Project Management Team at EAG in the day-to-day operations in relation to the launching of the MBA/EMBA programs and the Business Innovation Centre
  • To prepare all the supporting documentation for the establishment of the partnership agreement between the partner University and EAG
  • To identify and advise the EEIBS Project Management Team on the Curriculum of the selected university
  • To support the Project Management Team in the preparation of the validation documentation for launching of the MBA/EMBA Programs
  • To prepare a detailed operational/ action plan for the launching of the MBA/EMBA programs and the Business Innovation Center
  • To support the preparation of all the necessary brochures and documentation for the marketing of the MBA/EMBA Programs as well as the preparation of materials that support basic training and capacity building efforts of the EEBIC

The Expert will be assigned and will contribute to the launching of the MBA/EMBA programs and launching of the embryonic services of the Business Innovation Centre during the time of his/her contractual term period. He/she will work in close collaboration with Directors of EEIBS & EEBIC, TTF project Team Leader as well as EAG representatives and local project team at EAG EAA. During implementation of the assignment, the Expert shall be involved in the following core activities as they are stated in the PE3 which represents the approved working plan of the project:

  • Conceptualisation and governance
  • Enabling partnerships
  • Promoting and Strengthening EEIBS Programs
  • Programmes initiation and pilot implementation
  • Communication and visibility

Expected Results/Outputs of work

  • EEIBS strategic and operational/ business plans are prepared, revised, updated and approved by the Management Board and being implemented.
  • The EEIBS partners have been identified selected and partnership established for the launching of at least one MBA/EMBA program to target audiences and public authorities.
  • EEIBS MBA/EMBA program curriculum developed, validated and approved by the concerned authorities
  • Brochures and other marketing items are prepared to support the recruitment of the target number of students for the MBA/EMBA programmes
  • EEIBS management and operational setup has been successfully handed over to EAA.
  • EEBIC strategic and operational/ business plans have been produced and being implemented.
  • Take up of services offered by EEBIC in supporting innovation in existing businesses and in the creating of new innovative start-ups have been established.
  • Operational links with EEBIC and EAA have been established and operational
  • EEBIC core personnel have been recruited and are operational.
  • EEBIC management and operational setup has been successfully handed over to EAA.

Commencement date of the assignment: August 2019

Duration of the assignment: The period of the contract will be 8 months, which consist of 22 working days a month

Requirements:

Qualifications and skills

- University degree, minimum master’s degree in a business-related subject such as economics, finance, private sector development, SMEs development, industry, management or other relevant fields. A PhD in the business-related field would be a desirable requirement;

- Fluent in English;

- Excellent reporting and communication skills.

General professional experience

- Minimum ten years’ working experience of senior leadership of an international Business School or equivalent with experience of establishing higher educational institutions in developing countries.

- Experience of working on EU and other funded project for the development of institutions is an essential requirement. Experience in Africa would be an advantage.

Specific professional experience

- Minimum 10 years of working experience of senior management position related to partnership building with European universities;

- Evidence of extensive networks with highly reputable UK and other European universities;

- Extensive experience and reputation in strategic planning, budgeting; institution building and project management;

- Extensive knowledge of and experience in organising linkages between academia and businesses;

- Knowledge and experience in implementation of public policies by support services provided by Business Schools;

- Work with EU and/or other international projects targeting business communities to benefit from interface with universities and Business Schools.
