From managing
international developments funds and tackling poverty to offering advice to British
citizens who have been caught up in environmental disasters abroad, the work of
the The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) is vital to everyone
in the world. Join our 17,000 staff in their diplomatic, development and consular
work, and you could drive life-changing outcomes for countless people.

Your role with us

Joining the
Humanitarian, Food Security and Resilience department, you will help us better navigate
humanitarian crises. These desperate situations are often exacerbated by complex
barriers to how people can safely access aid, as violence, coercion and deprivation
are often rife when people are at their most vulnerable. Not only that, but numerous
forms of marginalisation such as bias based on gender, sexual orientation, religion,
ethnicity and disability can add additional complexities, so it is imperative that
we adopt an inclusive approach to humanitarian actions.

You will be
at the heart of this work as you lead the delivery of our Inclusion and Gender Equality
agenda. With a focus on building understanding around the importance of inclusion
in humanitarian actions, you will offer social development advice to colleagues
across the business, ensuring this knowledge is being taken into consideration when
policies and programmes of work are being devised. Partnering with policy and research
teams plus the Social Development Head of Office to share expertise with others
through seminars, technical guidance and analysis, you will play an integral role
in building better departmental awareness of inclusion and broad equality issues.

Ensuring we
are ‘inclusion sensitive’, you will help the wider team underpin their projects
with concrete evidence, and you will act as our technical expert when we are responding
to emergencies. As such, it will be imperative that you remain abreast of emerging
evidence and developments within the humanitarian sector, so that we are able to
respond quickly and with the utmost precision to every situation as it unfolds.

Who we are looking for

This is an exceptional
opportunity to champion the value of inclusion knowledge. To be equal to the challenge,
you will therefore have deep expertise in social development, with a background
in delivering outcomes in a humanitarian setting. As such, you will have experience
of working with programming, policy and diplomatic teams to refine their individual
approaches, with experience of implementing social and political analysis into practical
approaches. With a track record in tackling gender equality issues and defining
approaches to preventing violence against women and girls, you will be comfortable
collaborating with a wide range of internal and external partners, including international
stakeholders. The nature of our work means that you must be comfortable working
in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to balance competing priorities.

In turn, we
can offer you a competitive benefits package, plus a great work-life balance. With
the option to embrace hybrid working, you will be asked to spend a minimum of 60%
in the office where you will find plenty of support from an inclusive, friendly
and dynamic team. So if you want to make a tangible impact on the world’s
most vulnerable people, do not hesitate to apply.

Closing
date: 12 May 2025.
