Position title: Statistics/SPSS trainer
Description:
The QED Group, LLC is seeking a consultant to provide basic training in statistical analysis using SPSS for the local staff of the Communication for Behavior Change: Expanding Access to Private Sector Health Products and Services in Afghanistan (COMPRI-A) Project in Afghanistan. COMPRI-A is USAID-funded social marketing project that provides branding, marketing, and distribution of condoms, contraceptives, water treatment and oral rehydration salts, and conducts activities for behavioral change communication with regard to these products. The project has distributed USAID-owned brands of products and has conducted health communication activities all around the country.
The consultant will work with QED staff in Washington DC and Kabul Afghanistan to develop educational materials and conduct a two-week training session. He/she will travel to Kabul, Afghanistan to conduct training sessions for the local QED/COMPRI-A staff, government officials and local partners. The consultant is expected to work a total of 3-4 weeks, including 2 weeks in Afghanistan during the period on or about October 1, 2009.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of curricula and training manual for a training on statistical analysis using SPSS;
- Review current project data to design customized training exercises based on the real data;
- Develop and administer training needs assessment and post training evaluation;
- Prepare a detailed curriculum for a two week training theoretical and practical training sessions to the COMPRI-A local Research Monitoring and Evaluation staff, government officials and local partners (4 - 10 people);
- Develop stand-alone guidebook to assist staff in their ability to independently conduct SPSS analyses post-training;
- Conduct training in Kabul, Afghanistan for two weeks in October;
- Write a report summarizing findings from training needs assessment, key strengths and challenges of local staff vis-à-vis capacity to interpret data and conduct univariate and multivariate analysis using SPSS; post test results and analysis, and recommendations for future capacity building needs and post evaluation training survey to be implemented after the consultancy ends.
- Submit trip report.
Requirements:
- Masters or PhD degree in statistics, epidemiology, public health, economics, social science, or other field related to statistical analysis of survey data (Bachelors with significant experience will be considered);
- At least 3-5 years experience conducting statistical analysis of surveys data;
- Expert knowledge of SPSS, and proven experience conducting basic and advanced statistical analysis using SPSS;
- Experience conducting trainings in statistics or SPSS;
- Ability to travel to Afghanistan, without any special restrictions, and availability during September/October 2009 is required;
- Fluent English and proven ability to write reports is required;
- Experience in adult learning instructional methodologies;
- Experience working in Afghanistan is an asset.
