Strategic Communications Lead Position
Having recently concluded a strategic plan for the next three years, PADF is at an inflection point: we are excited to develop and implement a new strategic communication plan in line with PADF’s strategic and technical goals. The strategic communication lead will design and manage communications, social, digital media and outreach strategies, as well innovative approaches to reach key audiences.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a strategic communication plan for PADF.
- Lead the organization’s brand development, storytelling, and marketing strategy in all media formats.
- Provide mentorship and support to our staff in countries and HQ and collaborate with staff to provide strategic guidance to develop technical and country strategic communication plans, identify main PADF themes and messages, and, working with PADF resources and external vendors, develop products and platforms to expand partnerships
- Develop content and stories for a variety of PADF’s partners and audiences through different channels (e.g., websites, social, videos, presentations, brochures, and magazines).
- Increase visibility of PADF’s work among various stakeholders including senior audiences across the U.S. Government and Congress, government and civil society leaders in the Americas, and with the private sector.
- Lead specific pieces of analytical work concerning different audiences’ perceptions and opinions of PADF.
- Ensure quality control of all PADF materials by applying appropriate format and branding of products and presentations
- Ensure linkages between in person and digital events and opportunities.
- Draft talking points, blog posts, op-eds, and other written materials.
- Facilitate coordination across communication staff in PADF country and regional offices and, as needed backstop country and regional communication leaders around major events, presentations, and key campaigns.
Personal Characteristics:
- Interpersonal skills - The Strategic Communications Lead must have strong interpersonal skills and experience working cooperatively and strategically with different teams of people
- Comfortable with ambiguity – The Strategic Communications Lead must have the ability to maintain organization and productivity in an ambiguous and often fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of ten years of experience providing strategic communication advice in the international development sector, with broad knowledge of development issues, including: disaster resilience and humanitarian aid; environment; democracy, governance, and human rights; peace, justice and security; economic opportunity, health, nutrition, and education
- Hands on experience in developing, managing, and implementing strategic communication programs across multiple areas
- Experience working with and communications for private sector audiences
- Experience with policy writing, including distilling key concepts and presenting them for specific audiences
- Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks and work well under the pressure of deadlines
- Fluency with digital and social media tools and techniques, and integrating video and graphic design for enhanced impact
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (native proficiency)
- Fluency in Spanish or French highly desired
- Willingness and ability to travel nationally and internationally
The Strategic Communications Lead is based in PADF’s Washington, D.C. headquarters, with periodic travel (possibly 20-30% travel). When applying for this position, please include a cover letter and compensation requirements.
