Position Overview

The intern supports the Rockefeller Foundation’s Power & Climate team, which works to accelerate equitable energy transitions and end energy poverty globally. This role drives impact through project management, analysis, and strategic implementation across critical initiatives, including Mission 300 and Coal to Clean projects. Responsibilities include conducting quantitative and qualitative research to inform Strategy 2.0, collaborating with grantees to co-create delivery systems, and preparing briefing materials for strategic engagements. The intern will help manage partnerships and advance thought leadership on sustainable energy solutions. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to global climate goals and transformative energy access.

Program Details

  • Open to graduate students currently enrolled in an accredited program.

  • This is a summer internship, full-time (35 hrs/week) from June through August 2026.
  • The position is based in New York City and requires in-office presence Monday - Thursday.

Hiring Range: $30–$35 hourly rate. This represents the present low and high end of the Foundation’s pay range for this position. Actual pay will vary based on various factors, including but not limited to experience. This is a non-exempt position and thus eligible for overtime pay.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support project management for discrete projects that drive impact and performance in areas critical to the Power & Climate portfolio, in particular Mission 300 and projects in the Coal to Clean portfolio.
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses to inform the implementation of the team’s strategy 2.0, as well as in support of team programmatic, policy, and research priorities.
  • Drive the success of RF grantees working on Coal to Clean Solution projects by supporting the creation and implementation of joint delivery systems.
  • Prepare background and briefing materials to inform strategic engagements and partnerships.
  • Support in the management of grantees, partners, and contractors to implement the Power & Climate strategy.
  • Advance the team’s thought leadership in advancing equitable energy transitions and ending energy poverty by partnering with the Communications lead, drafting blogs and other materials, and supporting principal-level global engagement.

Education, Experience, and Skills

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate program in one of the following areas: sustainable energy, environmental policy, climate, international development or economics, public policy, business, or a related field.
  • Ability to analyze energy access and transition challenges.
  • Skilled in quantitative and qualitative research.
  • Strong writing and verbal skills for clear, impactful outputs.
  • Some experience collaborating across diverse teams and complex environments.
  • Comfortable working in international contexts; knowledge of SDG 7 and SDG 13.
  • Proactive skillset and focused on thriving in team settings. Ability to deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines.
