About the Role

To support National Grid’s strategic objective to embed sustainability, through providing support and advice, tools and techniques that promote the integration of sustainability into our business activities. The postholder will engage with both internal and external stakeholders to communicate the environmental and business benefits of adopting a sustainable approach.

Key Accountabilities

  • Drive environmental sustainability initiatives into our business units, delivering real benefits to National Grid, the environment and local communities
  • Develop tools and techniques that support the environmental sustainability agenda, such as quantification of economic and environmental risks and opportunities.
  • Provide specialist advice on environmental sustainability issues as required
  • Support the design, development and implementation of sustainability metrics, goals, business plans and reporting tools and work with key stakeholders to embed them in our business units
  • Engage with external peers to identify good practice, taking learning from these and adapting and applying to National Grid circumstances as appropriate
  • Work collaboratively with communications teams to tell our sustainability story to external stakeholders and employees

About you

Essential experience

  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability and confidence to communicate and build relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
  • Demonstrable passion for sustainability, with high levels of enthusiasm and drive to achieve results
  • Capability to engage and inform internal and external stakeholders in innovative ways
  • Strong team worker, committed to stakeholder satisfaction and performance improvement
  • Resilient, with the confidence and courage to challenge behaviours and issues

Desirable experience

  • Broad knowledge of current climate change and sustainability issues.
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation
  • Skills and experience in organising complex data into clear and compelling messages
  • Ability to use judgement in decision making where information may be incomplete
  • Broad appreciation of National Grid’s business and how sustainability can help to achieve its objectives

Qualifications

· Suitable scientific/engineering/economic based technical or professional qualification such as Degree, HNC or equivalent experience
