Local Unit & Position Description

Brief Team and Position Summary:

DNV GL’s Sustainable Buildings and Communities group is seeking a Sustainability Consultant to support two of our service areas: climate action planning and green building advisory/certifications. This individual should have the flexibility and capacity to work on a wide variety of projects that might include energy master planning, climate action planning, building energy use analyses, or LEED certification. We are looking for someone passionate and eager to learn how to apply sustainability strategies at both the municipal and facility levels. This position may be located in Oakland or San Diego.

Tasks May Include:

  • Supporting Project Managers with green building certification (LEED) projects, including coordinating teams and compiling required documentation
  • Energy modeling, energy auditing, retro-commissioning, and energy efficiency analysis
  • Calculating energy savings potential and greenhouse gas reduction potential and other energy analyses
  • Conducting literature review and research related to policy, technology and costs of different sustainability solutions
  • On-site data collection for facility, campus and communitywide energy use analyses or greenhouse gas inventories
  • Writing reports synthesizing the results of data collection, analysis and literature review
  • Preparing and presenting recommendations, reports, and results to internal project manager
  • Assisting with internal initiatives that require literature review and research on emerging strategies for high performance building design and operations
Position Qualifications

Candidate Requirements:

  • Minimum four-year college degree required
  • Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in the energy management, green buildings or climate change field
  • Detail-oriented and ability to use Excel spreadsheets efficiently for analyses and reporting
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with cross-functional team members
  • Ability to perform field work such as energy audits or inspections
  • Applicant will be a pro-active and self-motivated person who can work in a fast-paced office with minimal supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
  • Capacity for working on multiple projects at time
  • Ability to prepare and edit written reports using Microsoft Word and other desktop publishing software such as Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Must be willing and able to travel up to 25% domestically

Preferred Skills:

  • LEED Accredited Professional status, and experience on LEED projects is preferable
  • Additional certifications/licenses such as CGBP, CEM, PE, CCP, etc. are a plus
  • Experience with building systems and energy efficiency measures
  • Familiarity with the development process and basic knowledge of architectural plans and building systems
