ESCAP is the most inclusive intergovernmental platform in the Asia-Pacific region.
Reports to the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and promotes cooperation among 53 member States and 9 associate members.
The Office of the Executive Secretary (OES) provides guidance to divisions, subregional offices, and regional institutes, ensures accountability, and mainstreams gender equality and disability inclusion policies.
Internships are UNPAID, full-time (37.5 hours/week), under the supervision of the Sustainable Development Officer and/or Secretary of the Commission, OES.
Responsibilities – Knowledge Management:
Assist in organizing substantive materials for the Deputy Executive Secretary’s (DES) engagements.
Collect and consolidate information on global and regional intergovernmental dialogues.
Support the design and development of products for ESCAP’s high-level engagements.
Develop meeting notes and background materials related to DES engagements.
Assist in developing data work and analytical knowledge products for training, learning events, and other capacity-building initiatives.
Support updating the ESCAP websites with relevant material.
Responsibilities – Coordination:
Support coordination of missions by the DES.
Provide logistical support for meetings and events, including preparatory meetings for the Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development.
Assist coordination of inter-divisional or inter-agency meetings.
Support inter-agency coordination as part of the secretariat of the Regional Collaborative Platform for the Asia-Pacific region.
Support advocacy and communications, including liaising with communication teams, designing outreach materials, and collecting media products (images, sound bites, quotes).
Support development and coordination of reviews of regional SDG implementation, focusing on SDGs 3, 5, 8, 14, and 17.
Provide other coordination support as deemed appropriate by the supervisor.
Responsibilities – Research Support:
Provide research support for background and information materials for DES and ES high-level engagements.
Assist in preparation of speaking engagements for DES.
Conduct background research for the Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development.
Evaluate meetings and projects and compile statistics.
Provide other research support and assist the team in day-to-day activities as required.
Qualifications/Special Skills
Applicants must meet one of the following:
Enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
Enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent).
Graduated with a university degree and commence the internship within one year of graduation.
Languages
Fluency in English (spoken and written) is required.
Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish).
