Job Description

DAI is seeking experienced and dynamic candidates for an upcoming democratic strengthening programme in Zambia

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall strategic direction to the programme, hold responsibility for delivering results
  • Provide overall programme management to the programme
  • Act as spokesperson for the programme, representing its work nationally and internationally
  • Lead programme networking, engagement and institutional outreach .
  • Supervise, manage, lead and oversee Zambian and international staff working on the project.
  • Direct risk management and mitigation measures.
  • Authorise all short-term technical assistance required by the project.
  • Ensure quality of the programme delivery through mentoring the programme team and through providing feedback on their performance as well as areas for improvement.
  • Hold ultimate responsibility for project finances and management practices, with substantial support from the Operations and Finance Manager
  • Build and manage relationships with senior government officials, developing partnerships for sustainable programme impact.
  • Act as primary point of contact with DAI head office on programme implementation, budget, and personnel issues
  • Direct and collaborate with programme partners on issues of overall programme strategy.
  • Act as the primary liaison with the client and other donors active in the governance sector.

Qualifications/Competencies:

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in senior management positions in complex and dynamic international development programmes
  • Technical expertise in governance, advocacy, civic participation, political science, and/or media development.
  • Proven track record in developing and maintaining relationships with high level government officials
  • Experience managing international and national staff from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Programme strategy development experience, including work planning and activity budgeting,
  • Familiarity with Project Management tools and monitoring (milestone planning, logframes, etc.)
  • Long-term experience working with donors such as DFID, World Bank
  • Strong skill set in reporting and monitoring and evaluation
  • Strong presentational skills required
  • Fluency as well as report writing skills in English required

Education:

  • An advanced degree or a Masters in the relevant field of governance, monitoring and evaluation or a related field would be highly desirable.
