Job Description
The World Health Organization (WHO), Nepal invites applications from qualified and experience Nepalese citizens for the position of Malaria Surveillance and M &ETechnical Assistance Support.
Objective of the position
The Malaria Surveillance and M &ETechnical Assistance will support for the strengthening of malaria Surveillance and reporting at the sub-national level. In addition, this position holder will provide program support and M&E related assistance for Malaria program interventions in Disease Endemic Districts/Provinces.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Background
WHO is fully engaged and supporting the EDCD, National Malaria Program, Department of Health Services (DoHS) in design and development of policies, strategies and guidelines for Malaria disease control and elimination, and providing technical inputs in strengthening of Surveillance activities at the sub-national level to achieve the goals of Malaria Elimination by 2025.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
- Assist provincial malaria program to effectively plan, implement and monitor the interventions for malaria control and elimination including
- Facilitate malaria program at the provincial level and local level to develop microplanning and detail action plan for implementation of malaria control and elimination
- Support in regular reporting of provincial malaria activities including microplanning, surveillance, and M&E
- Conduct field visit and onsite monitoring of COVID-19 and Malaria Surveillance interventions - reporting at the Provincial, District and Local level Health Facilities and provide mentoring guidance to improve data recording, reporting, disease surveillance and response actions.
- Assist in review of data quality and monthly reporting of HMIS and provide inputs to improve data quality and strengthening of Surveillance and M&E activities in collaboration with key stakeholders.
- Conduct systematic data analysis and prepare data visualization presentation at monthly basis and identify evidence-based programmatic issues and bottlenecks.
- Conduct monthly presentation of key findings on Surveillance (progress and challenges) at the sub-national level and suggest feasible operational oriented solutions/improvement plan.
- Facilitate and advocate to strengthen the support of provincial programs for further improvement of Surveillance activities at the district and local levels and support continuation of essential services in the context of COVID-19.
- Assist Malaria Program to conduct workshops, meetings, and orientation of Malaria at the sub-national levels.
- Provide program support to WHO CDS team, EDCD and assigned focal points of Malaria program at the sub-national level.
- Perform other relevant duties as assigned by supervisors. This includes duty travel or duty-station reassignment at any time as per the program requirements.
- Submit periodic activity report and detailed achievement report on end of assignment.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential: Master’s in Public Health/ Epidemiology / International Health / Community Medicine fromrecognized university
Desirable: Medical graduate from a recognized university
Experience:
Essential: Minimum of 3-5 years’ relevant work experience in public health
Desirable: Demonstrated experiences in Malaria programs and Infectious Disease Surveillance
Experience of working in the NGO/INGO sector or UN would be an asset
Functional Knowledge and Skill
Required Skill and knowledge:
- Good interpersonal skills, able to work as a team member in a multi-cultural environment. Ability to travel exclusively within the country and to perform practical hands-on field work. Ability to participate actively and cooperatively in knowledge sharing and policy forums at various levels and to coordinate with the GoN agencies. Good knowledge in Malaria and other communicable diseases. Good report writing skills and analytical skills including ability to collect and analyse technical data and information and to draw and present conclusions in written and spoken form. Very documentation skills and good writing skills in English and Nepali including ability to write clear and concise progress reports, analytical reports, plans and proposals.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office: word processors, spreadsheets and other data processing, presentation programmes, Outlook and Internet, and email is essential. Proficiency in Statistical / Epidemiological Analysis software desired.
- Able to follow instructions and work independently would be an asset.
