Job Description

Swisscontact is currently implementing three projects in Ukraine in the areas of vocational education (EdUP), professionalization of SMEs in the vegetable and livestock industry (Empower AgriWomen) and trade promotion (SIPPO). With the new Building Livelihoods and Opportunities for Optimised Markets (BLOOM) project, we are continuing our growth in the country.

The three-year BLOOM project aims to provide on-farm and off-farm resilience support to improve the food security and self-reliance of vulnerable war-affected households and communities by protecting and restoring their food production and livelihoods. The project uses Market Systems Development (MSD) principles to address both short-term and systemic challenges.

The Technical Lead is responsible for all Swisscontact interventions of the project, while ensuring transparent and regular communication with the partners, the project implementation team and the Swisscontact management team. The postion is located in Kyiv, Ukraine and the contract duration is 12 month, starting April/May 2025

Tasks

  • Ensure that interventions are implemented in high quality, a timely manner, within available budget and meeting donor requirements
  • Ensure that interventions are implemented following Swisscontact working principles
  • Ensure that interventions are measured and evaluated according to Swisscontact M&E standards
  • Lead the necessary efforts for timely reporting based on the requirements of the donor and the consortium lead
  • Ensure that Swisscontact interventions are seamlessly integrated into the activities of the consortium and that there is transparent and regular communication with the partners
  • Supervise and manage the project staff to ensure high quality implementation
  • Follow an adaptive and agile management style, according to the MSD philosophy
  • Promote accountability and ensure that the roles in the team are clearly formulated and executed
  • Support the capacity development of the team and foster a learning attitude
  • Create a positive team atmosphere and a good working environment, contribute to team-building efforts
  • Support efforts to position the BLOOM project both internally and externally as an innovative and ambitious MSD endeavour in the development nexus space
  • Contribute to a positioning of Swisscontact as trustful and innovative implementing partner in Ukraine

Requirements

  • Degree in a relevant field such as development studies, social sciences, international relations or economics
  • At least 5 years of relevant international project implementation experience
  • Experience in Eastern Europe and/or Ukraine experience is  considered an asset
  • Familiarity with adaptive and agile project management
  • Experienced in implementing interventions from an MSD perspective
  • Experience in managing climate-resilient infrastructure projects will be considered an asset
  • Experience in implementing FCDO projects will be considered positively
  • Experience in dealing with complex and high-pressure work environments
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Fluency in spoken and written English
  • Ukrainian language skills are considered advantageous
  • Strong personality with good social skills and high emotional intelligence

Important note: The position is based in Kyiv, Ukraine, with frequent travel to project regions. Due to the critical situation in the country, this is considered a non-family duty station.
