Grade: NO-C Contract type: Fixed-term appointment Duration of contract: One year Duty Station: SUVA Fiji Organization unit: Regional Office for the Western Pacific (WPRO) Division, Building Healthy Communities and Populations / Reproductive Health

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME : To strengthen the capacity of the government and other key partners in the planning, monitoring and evaluation of activities on General Reproductive Health, Safe Motherhood and Child Survival programmes, particularly making pregnancy safer and sexual and reproductive health of young people. To promote collaboration in the development and/or review of guidelines on maternal and child health care activities and to support and monitor the implementation of programmes using the established guidelines.

Description of duties: (1) To collaborate and provide technical support to the Fiji Ministry of Health, Fiji School of Medicine, Fiji School of Nursing and other relevant organisations in the formulation of policies and implementation strategies on reproductive health, safe motherhood and child survival activities; (2) To collaborate with the Fiji School of Medicine, Fiji School of Nursing, and other health worker training and research institutions and relevant organizations in the integration and implementation of activities on reproductive health, particularly on making pregnancy safer and sexual and reproductive health of young people; (3) To provide technical support in the development of innovative approaches/techniques in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation to improve the quality of maternal and child health services, including education and management of the Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses (IMCI) programme; (4) To promote the implementation of activities that would advance the framework on accelerating action for sexual and reproductive health of young people; and (5) To perform other related duties as may be required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Advanced university degree in public health or related social sciences with specialisation in reproductive health, obstetrics and/or midwifery, or its equivalent professional training.

Skills: Thorough knowledge of the principles and policies of reproductive health, safe motherhood and child survival. Skills in planning and managing reproductive and family oriented health services, policy development, reproductive health and IMCI education and training. Excellent communication, interpersonal and negotiating skills. Proficiency in standard MS Office applications. Ability to work harmoniously as a member of a team, adapt to diverse educational and cultural backgrounds and maintain a high standard of personal conduct.

Experience: Three to six years of experience in reproductive health management, education programmes and / or policy development both at the national level. Experience working with international organizations and familiarity with the United Nations system an advantage.

Languages: Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English and the local language.
