GENERAL OBJECTIVE:
The objective of this assignment is to support textile-related PPA development and implementation. The Textile Processing Coordinator will provide support to the Textile Production Expert during the installation and commissioning of machinery and trainings for a textile-related PPA partner. Training topics will include wool washing, processing and dyeing.
BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION:
ABADE is USAID Afghanistan’s enterprise development program designed to significantly improve lives of people in Afghanistan by supporting enterprise development and job creation by assisting SMEs to grow their businesses. ABADE assists SMEs with better planning, appropriate equipment and technologies, better management skills and business specific skills, innovative supporting alliances, and by facilitating a business environment conducive to SME growth. ABADE’s three components are designed to increase the productivity and investment potential of SMEs in Afghanistan and to improve Afghanistan’s business enabling environment.
DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES:
The consultant will support the Textile Production Expert with the installation, commissioning and training of wool washing, extracting, drying and processing of wool. Additionally the consultant will install the 2,000 litre water boiler for the supply of hot water to the washing machines. The selected candidate needs to be fluent in English and Mandarin and will act as co-ordinator and translator for the three Chinese technicians will be arriving to install and commission the hank dyeing machines, opener, fearnought and carding machines. The installation, commissioning and training will take 25- 30 days.
OUPUTS AND DELIVERABLES:
The installation commissioning and training on wool processing machines including the installation of a water boiler.
1. Lining and levelling of machines in preparation for processing
2. Connection of power cables to all machines and set up of control panels in preparation for processing.
3. Connection of water feed pipes from cold water tank and hot water boiler to washing and hank dyeing machines.
4. Technology transfer for the water boiler, washing machines, hydro extractors, dyeing machines and tray dryer.
5. Training on process techniques for washing and drying raw greasy wool and dyed hank yarns.
6. Safety procedures and training on each machine
7. Preparation of hand books and operator manuals on each machine
8. Translating from Mandarin to English and vice versa between
Chinese technicians and factory personnel
9. Co-ordinating the activities of the Chinese technicians
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 10 years or more experience in textile production.
- An understanding of and practical experience working with textile production companies.
- Knowledge of wool and cashmere processing techniques, specifically dyeing
