Job Description – Trade Intern, British Embassy Hanoi

Main Purpose:
The UK-Vietnam bilateral relationship has recently been upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with trade and investment as a key pillar. The UK’s membership in the CPTPP further strengthens this partnership. With Viet Nam chairing CPTPP in 2026, there is an important opportunity to deepen engagement on trade and economic issues.

The Trade Team at the British Embassy in Hanoi is seeking a proactive, organised, and engaged individual to support trade policy and wider trade activities. This includes work on the UK-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA), the annual UK-Vietnam Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO), and CPTPP-related initiatives. The trade intern will coordinate events, visits, and reporting to ensure smooth delivery of these priorities and effective UK participation during Viet Nam’s CPTPP chairmanship.

The intern will also support wider trade promotion activities, including trade missions, events, business engagements, and administrative tasks across the team.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate events, visits, and translation for trade policy-focused activities, including CPTPP Chairmanship initiatives.
  • Assist in organising bilateral trade dialogues, including the annual JETCO and UKVFTA Trade Committees.
  • Prepare briefings, presentations, and other materials for trade events.
  • Support the development and delivery of the trade team’s communications plan.
  • Assist with trade policy reporting and research.
  • Translate trade materials between Vietnamese and English for internal and external use.
  • Provide logistical, administrative, and minute-taking support to the trade team.
  • Support the delivery of trade promotion activities, including administrative support for visits and events.
Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
  • Strong organisational skills and effective communication skills.
  • Proficiency in English and Vietnamese.
Desirable Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience arranging logistics for events and visits.
